I have a hackintosh, used logic for some time and got back to PC
I'm computer engineer, been building super computers for half of my life, overclocking to the extreme, and know what is a rock solid
stable machine.
Mac's are awesome, but so are well balanced PC's
Good motherboard with good capacitors, some Asus or Gigabyte models with solid state capacitors, good memory sticks with standard cooling heatsinks OCZ|Corsair|G.skill...., get yourself an I7 with good cooling, 30A power supply with 85%+ efficiency look for OCZ, Enermax,Corsair,Seasonic ect...
Good air circulation, you can achieve this with good basic case ~80$
Fast HD, i prefer one SSD for your OS and DAW, and one 7200RPM for the rest.
After you have your PC, run very simple but efficient stressing test for 10-15 hours straight , OCCT is my favorite stressing software can drive your PC+memory+HD+Chipset to the extreme.
Should pass with no errors even if it ran for whole week on such PC. |

nope. Because a fix involves a new logic board. They assume i just need to reset the nvram or smc. It requires a new logic board which they won't cover. |

| mac has the worst warranty policy on the planet. Same part sold in a store would have a 3-5 year warranty but they limit you to 1 or 3 with their plan. Their hardrives are hitachi same deal. |

Have you actually treid resetting the logic board? If you swap a bunch of the original components out, a reset can stop any weirdness.
And frankly random faults with your logic board on a mac pro is incredibly rare - they either die or work, not do weird like you're describing.
Something else is wrong.
Follow the instructions here:

I kind of get the feeling this is like getting a flat tire and deciding to build a new car.
You can go PC, but I swear, having got a recent asus laptop (best of it's class by a long way) I still loath windows for so many dumb reasons; Background tasks (Every ing program you install runs one even though it's not in use), updates (I swear, I've had this laptop 3 months now and it's needed windows updates 27 separate times now with no noticeable improvement in performance or stability), customization (I had to spend a full day stripping back windows and changing options just to get it in to non-bull mode)....I could go on, but me, even if you know a lot about computers as we do, I use them for work or music, not to reassure myself that I can defeat the backwards organisation of microsoft's products.
Oh and people, please stop suggesting Hackintosh's for anything other than proving to yourself you can make one. I've said it before but it's like getting a hot girlfriend and then chopping your dick off. |
