Where did you get these numbers? Explain why I should care between buying an Apple LED 1440p monitor for $1000, or a very good Samsung 27" 1440p LED monitor, which is around $729 brand new. This just doesn't make sense. I couldn't give a if Apple priced their monitor at $1000, which I will NEVER buy. It's not any better than any other LED monitor.
Adding to how crappy the iMac is, what if something fails? What if something simply takes a poo, like a USB port? Your ENTIRE monitor/computer needs to checked on by Apple. You need to drag your entire monitor to the nearest Apple Store, all for them to fix a faulty USB port. With any Windows build, you could simply RMA the motherboard, or swap out the faulty card. Complete waste of time and money.
Also, I don't know where you are buying these things OEM, but your calculations of 1800 CAD is simply invalid. Combining an i7 CPU, with a measly 1GB GPU, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD DOES NOT equal 1800. Try making this combo up on Newegg, and then have your mind blown.
Apple products are not any better than any other Win7 build on the market right now, and why they are charging double for them? Basically, the OS. It's a joke. |
Dude, you're talking .
I've been through this a dozen times on here, but you're missing the point. Sean was talking about you trying to build and Imac with the same quality compoenents and simply put you can't.
Don't get me wrong, macpros are hideously overpriced for what they are and a PC tower is going to be way more cost effective, but imacs are a different story.
You cannot buy a led monitor, i5/i7 cpu, decent video card, Slim case, PSU, HDD, motherboard, silent fans, RAM, BT mouse & keyboard etc, all of the same quality that apple supplies for even close to what they charge for the imac. And I'm not even getting in to the subjective issues, such as how well designed they are, how little space they take up or how little power they consume.
You raise the point about USB/FW failing - OK, but the thing is I've never met anyone that owns an imac that it has happened to. In fact, the FW bridge blew on my PC laptop from accidentally hotswapping a FW interface(just once) and I must have done it a dozen times on my imac with no problems. Imac are built like tanks - they actually have one of the lowest failure rates of any computer out there.
Go ahead - do the math. You can't spec it for less, and the result is an ugly looking tower case PC and monitor that sounds like a tractor when you start it up. |

We have been there before and I don't want to wast my time going over and over again this stuff, actually never mind, whatever, you are right, Mac (Apple) is much better computer, I would rather spend my time in studio doing what I want to do and not here going over this same stuff again -- simply do what you want to do and be happy.
PS. he is right, he builds great computer very cheep which works like a charm (last one is on his third year without any problem).
Cheers,

I swear you must be on crack. I literally just picked out piece-by-piece a Win7 system thats equal or better than the cheapest brand new iMac ($1199.99), for under $900. This includes an ASUS 22" LED monitor, a wifi stick, a pretty good mouse and keyboard, and a decent case with custom quiet fans.
Let's be honest here. Apple ONLY provides their own case, OS, and logic board. Also mouse and keyboard. Everything else IS NOT Apple's. Everything is made in China like the other PC stuff. Quality? Sure. They have a nice slim case/monitor thing. That is all.
For the same price, I'd much rather have an awesome gaming-grade PC desktop than an iMac. Now, I do have a Macbook Pro, simply because I prefer Apple's laptops over all else; but when it comes to desktops, PC all the way.
Can we finish this PC vs Mac ass-wiping contest please? |

| I'll just add one more general piece of advice that you probably already know, but it bears repeating for anybody who reads this thread: do NOT skimp on a PSU. Buy a quality PSU and make sure that you have more power than you think you'll need (i.e., after adding up the power consumption specs on your individual parts). |

Agree, this is imported element of PC which a lot of people don't pay enough attention (will eliminate a lot of blue screen errors from your computer lol).

Tower or not, an iMac isn't portable and neither is a PC tower. And I'm sorry my nerdy-ness is so overwhelming. |

Yeh, lol, but Rocks !!!!
I'm in design field for 20+ year and manage project over $ xxxxxx.xx even $xxxxxxx.xx and productivity, work ethic and planning is big factor in my work, so from my perspective if computer is not reliable or slowing me down, is gone very quickly and so far what he build never disappoint me, I'm damn happy so far.

| You've obviously never seen 3 matching mac pros next to each other in a cooled soundproofed utility room that lights up when the door opens. le sex. I thought about getting them painted in a rainbow gay pride pattern. Cause like they are in the closet. But then it would just weird clients out i think and they wouldn't get the joke. But , that would be funny. My girlfriend says im an idiot. |

Think about that, she maybe right lol :D
My PC goes right under table, I need space on my desk for other elements lol, so as far as those sexy Apple cases, don't really care and don't want to pay anything above what I really have to in order to get me right (in my opinion) equipment. Do my production suck?, don't know and don't really care, I'm simply doing what I love to do :D
Cheers man,

what is your noise floor at ?
LIke put a mic and record. I bet you hear all sorts of fans and hums. The mac case is really a work of art. I have a 400 lian li case for an old pc when they used to make good cases and it doesn't even come close.
do you have like one of those lame antec cases with like the shape of an alien and all kinds of gay lights ? |
