In WA if you live in a urban area you need an emissions test every 2 years after the vehicle year number is older than 5 years.

Yeah in NY you get a little sticker on your windshield that shows what month/year your inspection was done. It's an entire vehicle inspection from tire tread to windshield wipers to whatever else you can think of, and it's required by law every year.
