It makes the album completely redundant and that for me is the sign of a bad album. It really offers nothing which is disappointing in that they really did go leftfield not trying to make a commercial album. Most people at least make things interesting when a commercial aesthetic isn't the goal.

nothing is truly original... that's the first rule of art. it still has its own signature sound melded inbetween the homage, and its fun. isn't that enough? it might not be your thing but sonically speaking its a well crafted album

it is poorly mixed
poorly arranged
poorly performed
There is nothing interesting about it.

bad music isn't my thing and this album was bad. There is no genre or context for which this is not just really really really sub par.

I mean the people that like it, is it safe to say you don't really know much about say 70s funk - 80s italdisco ? How do you not find it completely derivative. And this isn't about being original, it is about being completely redundant. And that is kinda a problem. At least for me.

anyone who doesn't like this album just doest get music.

its not edm, its funky disco pop rock house.

the music is beautiful and proves these guys are the real deal. It is more along the lines of lcd sound-system and radiohead than edm. I am sure their electronic days are behind them and they will continue to evolve like real bands do.

if you are still waiting for the drop, listen to Giorgio, 5 minutes in. they have re-defined the drop with this orchestral build up.

IMO, DP this album isn't the game changer everyone was making it to be. Yes, it's good and I like it, but it's not revolutionary.Than again, Daft Punk didn't want to make an album that sounded like Daft Punk. They themselves have said that nowadays there's many DP knock offs, they needed a refresher.

it fails as a pop album, a funk album , a rock album , a disco album and any or all of those mixed into some hybrid album.

I mean some of the tracks just sound like they are taking the piss. I think anyone familiar with 70s - 80s music would find this just brutal. The only people that would find this acceptable are those that only listen to electronic music and don't seem to know what good musicians sound like recorded. This sounds like a kareoke version of the original.

I like how everyone in this thread is playing the "You just don't know about real music if you don't agree with me" card over a bloody Daft Punk record. And I'm amazed nobody has pointed out there's an 11 page thread about the same album about six inches down on your screen.

Your argument falls flat when you consider that most of the people going out and buying this record probably rarely listen to sequenced electronic music. Mainstream music circles will be much more familiar with that type of popular 70's and 80's music and yet they're all jizzing over this record.

most mainstream people have only ever heard music recorded to a click. What is it about this record that you find so great ? I've stated the reasons i find it bad.

Album is terribly bland and boring for me. It's basically all 70s disco influenced slow jams, no thanks.

Honestly, this album to me just shows how brain washed the modern music market is, they will follow the hype regardless of what was released. If anyone besides Daft Punk released this album, it would be the laughing stock of dance music.

I'm sure it will do good on top40 radio stations and the pop charts though. /yawn

don't take it so seriously... it borders on pop. why does ithave to be compared to and held by some immeasurable standard of musicianship? it's not classical music its a dance record made by two french guys wearing robot masks. its purpose is to be fun with a hint of substance
