Daft Punk's new album (pg. 9)

It's a matter of opinion. It doesn't matter why you don't like it. You just don't. I do. There's no point in arguing why you don't like it vs. why I do. That's just pointless.

You don't like it and I do. That's the bottom line, and you wanting to argue about it just shows your never assuaged desire to prove that you know more about music than other people.

Any art is 100% subjective. That's why this thread is stupid. You were just looking for people to disagree with you so you could show how much you know about music, as always. I'm not mad that you don't like it, why would I care? I just find it kind of a stupid reason to start a thread. You were clearly just looking for an argument because there's no way you haven't come across all of the positive feedback the album has received.

Uhh... no.
Looney4Clooney
Dan Brown is trash literature
3 1/2 men is a bad tv show
transformers is an awufl movie

the only people that would put up a fight would be rednecks and children.

the second you talk about music, people cannot seem to step back for a second and think about it in ways one might critique other forms of art which you can with as much ease. Music seems to be the only ing artform were people cannot question things they like.

I actually like reading zombie novels. They are garbage in terms of art/value. I am not opposing anyone's right to like this album. It is subpar work of art for the reasons i explained earlier.

there are tons of bad reviews. They just tend to be given by musicians. go to any forum for say guitar drums even gearslutz and you will hear people wondering what the is wrong with people.Even the professional engineer circle are wondering how they managed to get it sounding so ing thin and dull despite their apparant attempt to sound vintage. I mean it is literally voodoo how they managed to make tape sound so digital.

So no, there are quite a few bad reviews. But the ones you hear about are the ones written by people that know very little about music and don't really know why one would find the album rather average and redundant. The funny thing is my mention of steely dan white washed show up quite a bit and that is just what came to mind. There is a general consensus among alot of people that his is pretty much a really bad attempt at recreating something old.

That's exactly what you're doing. You've said they're wrong, and thrown in veiled insults like saying "they're the type to prefer Hans Zimmer to Wagner."

You're right, in your mind, and they're wrong. This whole thread was aimed to show everyone that you know more about music than them, not to critique an album. Obviously you tried to pass it off as that, but anyone who sees you post regularly knows that wasn't your real goal here.

Anybody who came out saying they liked this album, you were just going to smack them down saying you know more about music than them and throwing around insults about their taste. You always do this, this is no different. You don't seem to understand your own personality.

I think I basically agree with L4C.

Whether I personally like something is a different question to whether it does new things on a musical or technical level, innovates on a style, or has skilled playing or production (though those might be among my reasons to like it). And calling a piece of art "good" is kind of pointless for discussion purposes if the only metric you're using is "I just really, really like it and can't explain why."

Haven't heard the new album but the discussion is still interesting to me...
Looney4Clooney
so you are basically psychic. ( to russell)
srussell0018
No, your pattern of posts are just all the same. You have an MO that you follow with almost all of your chains of posts. You don't need to be a psychic to see this.

You don't like the album, great.
Other people do, and that doesn't mean that they're wrong, or have bad taste, or don't know anything about music. They just like it.

People have different tastes, and you don't seem to understand that. You could have made a thread just pointing out the flaws in the album, and that would have been perfectly fine. The moment you said "this album is bad" your argument became completely pointless.
Looney4Clooney
it is not a question of taste. I would of really liked this album if

A. the recording was not so ing stale
B. the performances worked together
C. they hired an arranger
D. They had someone more familiar with the music they were trying to create help them.
E. THey did a little more than just try to recreate something already done. The only thing they seem to have added was a vocoder and a few arpegiatted synths which even then is not exactly new.

unless by taste you mean i have a taste for music that isn't redundant. Then yes. You are absolutely right.

Uhh, I know quite a few people that aren't rednecks/children that enjoy those things. But hey, blanket generalizations are awesome, right?

Again, I know a lot of people who can do the very thing you say that people cannot. It's entirely possible for a lot of people to say, "It's not my taste, but I can appreciate what the artist did with x-thing and x-thing," when it comes to music.

Get yourself some new friends.

Looney4Clooney
well that doesn't seem to apply here.
idoru
To a few specific people in this thread, no, but you were speaking in generalizations.
