No. He's a "Storm Trooper" in the "First Order," a faction of the Empire that survived.

I saw the teaser trailer (not the one in the OP) in the cinema a couple of weekends back. Maybe it's because I was lightly toasted, but I must admit it made the hairs on my arms stand up a little.

I know there's no inherent reason why slapping "Star Wars" on something gives it any guarantee of quality. Lord knows my generation have had their cult classics abused and whored out too much to keep falling for that old trick. None of the original creative minds are involved in this iteration, although for once that might not be a bad thing. At this point most Star Wars fans who aren't prequel-sucking dips will just settle for a decent space yarn with TIE Fighters all over it. I'm deliberately avoiding any of the leaks or frenzied online discussion (present thread excepted) in order to deliberately dampen my expectations.

And yet, and yet... There's something about that music, those spaceships, the lightsabres, that whole universe. There's some residual mystique in there that makes it more than just another space yarn. It's Star Wars, cries the memory of my five-year-old self. So let's sincerely hope they don't it up.

Yeah I pretty much agree with all of that.

It's this sort of sentiment that has me the most worried tho'. Seems all they have to do is competently slap together all the things folks enjoyed of the OT, and they'll leave the theaters ecstatic. It could be a total rehash, beat for beat, plot point by plot point, and the flic' will be proclaimed the best thing since Empire.

they don't have to try to be good. They just have to be average, with all the nostalgia triggers going to keep you engaged. Shouldn't fans expect something more? Or have they been so beaten, their will so broken, their hopes so squandered, that they'll submit to a mediocre but acceptable outing?

The only difference between a rehash and a revival is the time it takes for you to miss what's been away.

Besides, we've learned the hard way that whatever lies behind the intangible magic of Star Wars it certainly, it certainly doesn't come from George Lucas. As I suggested, the look, feel and sound of the universe is perhaps the biggest source of that magic, and provided they nail that aspect it's going to be a satisfying experience. It's not like the originals were high art, is it? They were well made fairy tales for the moon landing generation.

I guess in my case, for me to get interested in Star Wars again, that's just not enough. I'd almost wish to see a reimagining of sorts, or at least a 'tales of the old republic' treatment with familiar aspects but set in a totally different setting. With the current storyline, with all the same people and places, the franchise lies somewhere in the realm of Harry Potter of how much I care about it now (re: I never read the books, nor saw the movies).

am ing pumped. like others I have 0 expectations other than knowing it/they couldn't possibly be worse than the prequels.

while I was strongly against a return of luke/leia/han, I admit I got pretty excited seeing solo in the new trailer. I hope they don't make the same mistake of killing off the sith lord in the first film, i'd really like to get to know him better.
