Unfortunately, we seem to be doing Dumb (TM) in this country, and it will likely continue for some time. I apologize to the rest of the world. Didn't Churchill state you can always count on Americans to do the right thing, eventually? Maybe we will in this case, too. :(

Los Angeles School District just announced school closures starting 3/16/2020 for 2 weeks. Thankfully, my work is now moving forward with working from home. I've never worked from home so it'll be interesting trying to do so... especially with a kid at home.

Advice: if you have the space to do so, set up in a room that you designate "work". When daddy is in here, he's working. It helps you, and your loved ones, to separate "home" from "work".

It really does make a difference, at least for me, as I've done it both ways. Some people even say that it helps them get into "work mode" if they get up at the same time (even though they'll have no commute) and even dress in work attire (if you have a dress code). It helps the brain get into the "I'm still at work" mode.

Well, this is a super creepy coincidence:

https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3985

It's a paper from 2015 describing experiments on coronaviruses native to bats in which the researchers created a "chimeric" (hybrid) virus with a new protein designed to infect human cells.

One of the institutions that took part in the research? Wuhan Institute of Virology.

I've seen several sites/stories speculating on that. I have not researched it to form an opinion, but something tells me we'd never know the truth, even if it were true. :(

This is China's way of taking over the globe.

They've created it, spread it, contained it and will soon reap the rewards.

Imagine.

I don't think that, but what if..

Anyway, we're doing okay. I already work from home, so that's a plus. One of our bedrooms is my office. It'll also become a quarantine room if needed. My partner is now teaching classes via Skype for the next two weeks before she goes on maternity leave. We had our 35-week midwife appointment today and she said we have nothing to fear. I'm still skeptical.

I wonder what the club vibes are like right now.

It wouldn't be the first time a virus escaped a lab in China. Happened twice in Beijing during normal SARS research back in 2004.

Now to come up with enough hardware, certificates, and software licenses to make about 1/3 or so of our workforce mobile/work from home ready. GO TEAM

Well I'd hate to tell a medical professional I told you so, especially in this situation, but:
