how long did u take on this?
and are u allowed to enter breaks in the contest? |
Sure I'm allowed to enter breaks, I could have entered polka if I wanted to. ;)
It's taken a while... I've definitely spent more time on this one than any of my other tracks. I can't peg an exact number, but I've been working on and off for about a month - I'd hazard a guess of 50 hours or more. The glitch sounds alone took several hours to get right (and they're still not exactly what I was hoping for).
Oh, and I should add, I'm aware that there are some audible crackles in the piano... I'm hoping to get rid of them, just haven't isolated the cause yet.
Thanks guys, keep 'em coming, especially if you've got suggestions ( that won't take more than 24 hours to implement :) ) |

speaking of the piano bit, from 6:57-7:10, i'm not really feeling that part as its a bit too simple compared to the rest of the track and just kinda...well...dunno |

Yes it is a slap bass. Hadn't had too many complaints about that on the intermediate runs... at this stage of the game I'd say it's there to stay since it's an integral part of the rhythm. Thanks for the tip though - maybe I'll stay away from slap basses in the future since some people don't seem to like 'em... although maybe that's true of any instrument, who knows.
In terms of the piano near the end, it is pretty plain, so we're on the same wavelength there - it's going to get some more embellishing before the final render, as well as adding some more expession to the piano itself (have to do that last, since it'll mess up the tempo and my VSTs are all frozen).
I've tweaked a couple of filters and eq settings since yesterday to keep the momentum going in certain parts... after all of that's done I'll post the final version. I need to submit it in Windows Media format... yuck. |

Good job! I really like this. I think it needs just a bit more kick though. Something to make the melody a bit stronger... |

No, the bassdrum is solid... the melody just needs to be stronger... maybe some EQing would help, but I think it needs something more in there... another layer or something to make the melody come out a bit more. |

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. Is >this< any better ? I layered more sounds to make the melodies a tad more prominent. |
