Thanks for the comments Liam. Where do you hear too much reverb? I haven't listened on too many different systems yet, I might not have noticed...
The Vocoder is a Reaktor instrument. |

the piano...and those synths u used in the begining of the track..
btw...the ending bit of the track, around 6 mins on, those squeaks just make it sound too busy..maybe a bit less of em??

Hey Liam - I tried to PM you a review, but your mail box was full - in case you missed the thread I started, here's my review:
Hey Liam,
Pretty in cool man!
That bass is dirty and mean - i like it a lot.
I'm getting distortion on the kick right from the start.
There's a hi hat that almost mirrors the kick except for the end of each bar, and it's a little weird on the ears - maybe some delay would help?
Your sounds and synths are top notch - great texture and you've done an excellent job with panning or whatever, because all the spaces are nicely filled with tasty sounds.
I'm having a blast jamming along with my guitar
I hope you finish this one - it's got a pro feel to it...
Are you going to post it in the production forum? I think you should.
Take care man,
Trev |

Hey Aaron,
You're the king of fx and tasty sutble sounds.
I think you did an excellent job creating a drum kit that sounds very real, it's awesome. Your drum fills are top notch - sounds like you've got some sitting behing a kit.
At 2:27, there's some sample that plays for only a few seconds - I get a bit of distortion on it, was that intentional?
I dig the female vocals. I'm not a big fan of the 2pac bits, but that's only personal taste of course. The "Uh-oh" was pretty cool though :) I really enjoyed your use of the vocoder and am sorry that there wasn't more of that!
Overall, it's a solid pro sounding tune - you did excellent work.
However, I'm looking forward to when you return to house and breaks, cause that's the funky I love!
Thanks for sharing,
Trev |

That's a good point about the ending, I could definitely lower those high-pitched samples a bit or arrange them a little more sparsely.
The pads at the beginning are dry... the piano doesn't have reverb but it does have a delay which I could possibly lower the feedback on. I'll experiment with that... sounds OK to me but that's why I put it up for review!

Thanks Trev! Actually the 2Pac bits and the female vocals are all part of the same original, there were several times during the production of this track that I wished I could separate them somehow. ;)
The sound at 2:27 (and a bunch of sounds after it) are all using a kind of atmospheric delay/reverb effect, so it is "intentional", but perhaps it's a little too loud or up-front in that particular spot? It comes in again at 6:20... you think maybe it would benefit from being lowered in volume a little and/or using a lower-pitched sound?
Thanks again for the detailed review. :D |

the hi hats theres actually 3 hi hat layers on there (3 diff notes) + i put a beat repeat effect on one layer..i guess i should toss taht effect...cos i noticed that i dont seem to pick up some frequencies with these speakers and earphones of mine...i played this at a friend's place and i heard some sounds of the synths too that i hadnt heard on my own pc...odd..
lol @ jamming on ur guitar...reason why its funny is cos i actually came up wiht the main riff jammin on my guitar (which i hadnt touched in 2.5+ years) but i didnt want to record it cos my fx pedal is busted so i couldnt do the distortion and post fx on a guitar sample dont come out quite the same way...
im thining of recording a little guitar riff tho that im gonna throw towards the latter half of the track...:D
thanks for the listen Trev...ur feedback is always a help |

one thing I noticed is that when one produces, ur listening to those loops on hours end and u just get used to it and dont notice flaws/things that would be better otherwise so we need "proofreading" for lack of a better term..lol |
