terrible sound @ guv last night -- system problems
memorable tunes for me:
white stripes vs adam freeland - seven nation army w/ bomb violin
sander kleinenberg - the fruit
nirvana - teen spirit (bk mix)
delerium - silence (a&b remix)
can anyone ID the third track spun by max graham? |

Alright, so I got into the guv around 11:30 and went straight out to the patio, met up with a few TAs, but damn it was cold out for that. I would have liked to be there a bit earlier for more of Kenneth Thomas--I liked the bits and pieces that I heard.
IM
Went back inside for IM, same bullcrap of being too packed (we all knew that was going to happen though). I watched them from the side of the stage near the patio and wow those guys know how to perform. Crowd had massive amounts of energy (a bit too much in some cases). I didn't really like some of the crazed fans who went just a little too far-why do you really need to attempt to jump up on stage. Anyhow, while I was watching them I had a conversation with my b/f about the sound technician on duty down below and how much IM seemed to be pushing the sound system. I have to say I really enjoyed their set both because of and despite this fact at the same time.
Max Graham
So I heard the first part of his set, not bad but odd that IM came first seeing as how much harder their style was (not amazing for the overall flow of the night but still good). The violin solo=supurb, what a great unexpected event. Here's when the problems start. I'm guessing that IM may have been a bit too much for the guv's sound system or perhaps they have other issues. I was resting in the acid lounge when the live feed completely cut off. Then people started pouring in as I heard muffled base comming from the guv. Crappy.
Armin
With the sound issues not yet resolved I attempted to hear the opening of Armin's set. Completely butchered. Base was muffled, high tones scratchy and distorted, and mid tones didn't even seem to be there. I was increadibly impressed by how Armin handled it. By looking at him you would never have been able to tell there was anything wrong at all and gave his set the same amount of effort, wow. He carried on during the fiasco until they fixed up the sound some more and then I just couldn't stop dancing. First time seeing AvB live, I thought that IM would be a difficult act to follow, Armin did it hands down. I have so much respect. Killer tracks, tons of energy, he kept on pushing me to dance until I just couldn't do anymore.
MO
After Armin I needed to rest but I did catch some good classics. Live feed was sort of back up to the Acid lounge, speakers sounded ruined (I think they even brought in a back up)
Didn't make it to the orange room, a bit dissapointed. Some really good vibe (in most areas-not going to start bitching) despite overcrowding (which I forced myself to put up with). On call sound technicians were crutial though I hope the guv solves these issues for the future. Hello to all the TAs that I didn't get to meet/see. Good times overall:)

smack my bitch up was played by graham
yea they did have sound problems at armins set but they were fine after 2 or 3 tracks and everything became fine fore the rest of his set
guvernment was packed by i found some space im not gonna tell you where so next time if i go im gonna go to same place cuz honestly i dont understand wtf are the owners of guv thinking when they invite max graham, infected and AVB in one day and then do it at guv instead of opening KH..tghat was dissapointing but after you do find space you have the time of your life
ALSO i actually met the solo violin guy and talked to him right by the entrance to the OrangeRoom..LOL
I go eh man sup he goes hello i could hear the accent so i go are you russian, hes like yeah man im from moscow but i live in montreal. Im russian too so we started speaking russian and he told me his name is Zenia(Jenia, Genia?) i dont know howveer you spell it but hes the nicest guy and we talked for around 5min he told me he already does this for around 10 years in a lot of other clubs and then he slike ok im going backstage for some after party. lol im actually from moscow too so it cheered me up a little when i found out a guy who does this is from the city i lived in but yeah like i said again CRAZY NIGHT
