Playing devil's advocate for a little bit, McProg isnt the only sound that everybody emulates and beats to death and grows fluffy and hated.

There is an endless list of people canning that sasha and diggers sound at the moment. You can't say that most prog is any more original than McProg these days. Alot of people are hero-worshiping these dudes and think its ok to copy everything they play.

Everyone ant their mother is trying to either sound like involver or ASOT, whatevery sound you are trying to copy, its still a ripoff and is bound to get stale if it happens too much.

Word. About the only pure form of electronic music left is ambient or photography, as it's impossible for any track to be the same.

On the note of calling McProg as American Progressive, as an American I have no problem at all with people using the word American to descirbe anything of substandard quality.

Call me unpatriotic all you want, but if we build a nice strong stereotype of America as stupid, fat, greedy, mass produced, ugly and cheap, then I think it will lead to more positive changes from Americans who try to fight the stereotype.

So you dont think there are any energetic forms of dance that are still pure? That really saddens me cuz I'm really trying to find one, do you think anything comes close?

say what you want about Tigerclaw, but the way i see it, at least he is trying to contribute to the scene. which is a little bit more than the mud being thrown around by some children in here, messing up the place.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you there. But I pretty much gave up on the whole progressive movement by the end of 2002, when Sasha and Diggers went ridiculously minimal and dark, towing the rest of the progressive sound down with them.

With McProg there's much more intersection with trance, so it's difficult for trance fans to avoid. If people were constantly posting rave reviews about boring progressive tracks that sound like a drum loop, you can be sure it would be just as grating. Actually, two years ago during the prog wars that was the case on this board. All the prog-heads finally left, making way soon after for the Gabriel & Dresden fans to fill the void. This morphed into the American Progressive following, which over this year developed an unholy alliance with A State of Trance.

Contribute? How? They're trying to make money by hammering the same old McProg recipe. How is that helping us find new and interesting music?

Thank you for your compelling and thoughtful contribution.

Just as aside, I don't hold any particular antipathy to things American. After all, I live here and have a certain amount of respect for my nation. Nor are American goods substandard by default. It's just a popular generalization that applies well to the subgenre of music we're talking about.

I think he just wants you to start typing in a dumb way :p

Maybe we over-analyse these things, genres and tracks and whatever, but if everyone over here had the same attitude than InfiniteSquare, i'd get the out of here very quickly.
