Ok, is it just me or do the rule changes just seem to geared towards handicapping the larger budget teams? Don't get me wrong, I love competitive racing, but to me, F1 represented the pinnacle of the sport of driving. This was basically the forum in which teams, drivers, and manufacturer's were set to display their technical, mental, and physical skill.
I'm all for competitive racing, but why is that no one seems to recall the great Hakkinen/Schumacher cum McLaren/Ferrari battles of not that long ago? This was done with full tire changes, pit strategies, and back in the time where qualifying laps meant you actually had to employ some thought into when to run. Is the Ferrari dominance thereafter Hakkinen's retirement their fault? I really think that McLaren dropped the ball as a team in it's support of it's drivers, (Kimi in particular) and in it's development.
Renault had a strong season last year, along with BAR, and I would like to think they would have come out strong this year again. I would have liked to think they would have been very competitive shortly under the same rules. These are teams with large budgets, relatively new, and on the rise. McLaren and Williams should have been more comptetive over the last few years, but simply haven't been up to snuff.
I'm not crying over Ferrari's lack of impressiveness thus far, I'm just upset over the fact of the continual handicapping of the sport every few years to appease a few teams whose management and dedication just don't seem to measure up. Maybe I'm a purist, but dammit I want my F1 to be the pinnacle of auto racing!!! Gimme 300 MPH cars with slicks and 3.5 L turbo engines....... |

tranceplant dude, i couldnt agree with you more.
every year they change the in rules. maybe the problem with the sport is that they change the rules too often and dont give teams an oportunity to get well adjusted to them.
i would love to see the old 12 lap qualifying system come back, now that was interesting, not the bull they have now.
i started watching F1 in during the great schumi and hakkinen battles. there was nothing with the sport then and i wish they had left it as it was. |
