CD 2 came up on my playlist yesterday without me even noticing it and by the time I did it was over half through it. I guess it is bearable, just not something worth buying. |
If Tiesto would have put more work into the transitions, I probably would purchase it. But the fact that you can tell he just put his name on it...I'm not buying it. I'd rather buy something from someone who put effort into their compilation. |

Same here. ISOS 3 was something I'd buy. Same goes for the Magik series (I have 7), and In My Memory. Hell I'd even buy Just Be. |

finally gave this a listen yesterday
cd1 - didn't think too much of the intro... the track is ok though i guess. the CD builds brilliantly for the first 9 tracks or so, with every track gradually changing the overall mood, whilst maintaining a constant vibe. slightly slower than the norm for what i've come to expect from ISOS, but it works nicely. i wasn't too excited at the inclusion of 'arcadia'... and didn't think it fitted in with the flow all that much. from that point the vibe seems to get a little lost, 'midnight express' seems far too trancey given the overall mood of the cd up until that point, and lessens the impact of 'the force of gravity' which would have otherwise made a worthy inclusion imo. 'the loves we lost' would be an awesome track if it weren't for the percussion sets at 69:23 and 69:35 making my ears bleed. would have made a great finisher too; i found 'perfect silence' to be a completely pointless inclusion, especially given that he had to resort to fading out the track during the 2nd break... one of my pet hates in mixes.
cd2 - 'palma solane' has now surpassed 'tantrix' as my favourite ISOS opener; has such an awesome atmosphere to it. without a doubt my favourite track from the entire compilation :D ... gave me high expectations of this CD from the start, which were dampened slightly by the uncomfortably quick transition into 'beyond' (i used that trackname for a tune i did back in 2003 and it's not due for release until later this year.. d'oh). the track is nice however, and along with the 2 succeeding it, really fits with the expectations i had from ISOS before listening, moreso than CD1. 'slow it down' shifts the vibe into a slightly more bouncy territory, and 'bad' puts a slightly techier edge on the mood, both working well towards progressing the structure. unfortunately, 'gravity' and 'ur' both did absolutely nothing for me and seemed to kill the flow; i'm not against male vocals as a rule but they sounded horrible on both these tracks, especially 'ur' (i liked the original but the vocals really don't work on a 4x4 beat). again like CD1, from this point the mix seemed to lose its way a little, with 'evolution' seeming an odd choice given the tracks before it.. although i guess it works given its position on the cd (as a 'getting towards the end' track), as does the tune after it. if 'netherworld' was used as a finisher then i think it would have fitted in better; it seems a bit of an oddball where it is now.. though that might just be because its the only track i actually knew on the whole CD, hehe. 'only one' is quite a nice tune but didn't really seem to work as a finisher at all... would have fitted better early on on the CD.
as for the mixing in both CDs.. some good transitions, some not so good, some rather appalling... by commercial mix-cd standards anyway. this was the main thing that put me off buying it; sure the tunes were nice but without them being smoothly blended together it made it feel more like a standard compilation of tunes rather than a single solid piece of music.
to summarise i think both CDs start off well, but don't think tijs had enough quality tracks in order to make up 2 full CDs.. would have preferred it if the best ones were condensed to 1 cd. |

| i think the opener on cd2 is really good but to trancy and fast for isos, atleast to be track 1. |

Since I only get to listen to new electronic music every 6-8 months. This Album was rather splendid. Disk 2 really grew on me after few spins.
Overall, 8/10. |

| ISOS 4 is not Tiesto's best work. It's not even close. But it's still a decent compilation, especially for a two disk set. The mixing is not the best. Not nearly as good as the first half of ISOS 3, but also not as bad as the last half. It has a lot of good songs and a lot of ok songs. Unfortunately, it's more than likely that either you already own or have heard the good tracks a thousand times by now. If this had been a one disk album released in 2003, then everyone would probably be gaga over it. Since it's not, ISOS 4 must be deemed as just another trance album. |

Just as expected, it gets better with every listen. Though I must have a little "adavantage" over most of the reviewers here:
I hardly care about mixing as long as its not hurting my ears (and being a non-dj I would rarely notice little double-beats)
I stopped following each live set /ASOT episode a long time ago but reduced my trance love to attending gigs only. Which is why most tracks sound fresh. |

yeah, that about sums up my sentiment actually. I don't bother trying to get the latest tracks (well sometimes I do)...I'm content on waiting for a big Dj to come to Toronto or for a big cd release like this. My friend is a Dj and we share similar interests so he gives me the heads up on stuff. |

| This isn't what I expected to hear from anyone who had listened to the album already. I was sure that ISOS 4 would be sweet. I still haven't heard it yet since I am in Iraq but I can't wait to get my hands on it for a listen. |

I have seen many mixed reviews for ISOS 4. I was hoping that everyone would be in agreement but when does that ever happen.
I can't wait to get my hands on the album though and hear it for myself.

| CD 1 is really good, the mixing imo is fine - bar 1, maybe 2 short transitions. Sometimes, depending on the track, shorter transitions are better than longer ones. The track selection is great as well - i had never before heard nearly all of the tracks on the first cd. CD 2 does nothing for me though. |
