Actually these two chicks are from toronto. I see them all the time here at events. This pic was taken in June 2003 when tiesto washere during his docks party. I was beside both of them the whole night :)

By the way. that set is available :)

From reading a lot of these posts, ppl are basing tiesto's success on either his mixing ability/fulidity, or his live preformances. When it comes to dj'ing, there is a clear distinction between the two.

A great deal of tiesto's appeal comes form his charisma on stage. The way he caries himself and engages the crowd while spinning is something that can't be tought and a lot of dj's lack.

For many clubbers, seeing the dj so hyped about the music he loves is what it's all about. If some dj gets up and spins a wicked set but doesn't even crack a smile the entire night, the vibe can be thrown way off. This is not always the case, and totally depends on the person...but it's a point worth making.

The fact that he throws down good tracks one after another and spins well enough for most not to complain combined with his personality on stage is makes him number one in the eyes of many.

.::I am not defending or applauding his status as #1, this is my interpretation of the situation::.

The impression I'm getting here is Tiesto's popularity stems from the same reason that hair metal bands were so popular in the 80's: theatrics. Fine and dandy for folks who like a lively show, I guess, but what about those who enjoy music with their ears instead of their eyes?

I'm just gonna go ahead and inject my opinion because I'm tired of trying to appease morons.

Tiestor ing sucks and Sasha should be #1

I totally agree. I for one am for the music first. This is a given. Yet when ppl vote for the DJ of the year, everyone is voting for their own reasons personal to them. One person might base their vote purely on a dj's mixing ability...another might vote for a dj because they had a kick-ass night the evening they went out and happened to see a particular dj.

That is the problem w/ the top 100 list. There are no set guidelines that make up criteria for the "best" dj. maybe if there were different top 100 charts.....that's a long stretch tho and would complicate things I think.
buchnaner
who's dj tiesto?

i actually saw him @ Space during WMC and wasn't that impressed w/ his set.

but i'll tell you who i am impressed w/. armin van buuren puts out a set every week for trance fans all over the world to tune in to. for free. every week. for free. every week.

tiesto on the other hand is $50 if i wanna hear what he's spinning nowadays. and his sets aren't all that new. for the love of god, quit playing traffic, love comes again, adagio. good prods but PLAYED OUT.

i still like him, and will buy isos4 when it comes out, but he's not my fave anymore

YOu just spit up what was discussed in the Disney thread....your arguement is stale, mundane at best.

It's really a rather simple concept.....dont like him? dont listen to him...whats it matter to you who is number one DJ or not...

We ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL know Tiesto is a pop star...and that he is not like he was years ago....so either bring something new to the table or piss off.....

That is not the point of to discuss. I wanted to have discussed, what makes him tha big, even if he really isn't. I also never said, I don't like Tiësto!

Ok, hold up. Why do you assume he is black? Second, why does that matter at all? And also, what the hell did you mean by "I do even tolerate black music." I think you have a bigger problem than Tiesto.

I thought he was black. Just remembered wrong. Well, that's not relevant. Why do you think it matters?? Black is just an adjective which describes something more precisely.

I tolerate black music, because I have to. I'm living in Germany. The clubs here are full of black music, since dance music died about three years ago. I don't mind if anyone likes balck music. But when I say, that I hear trance people laugh at me (don't tolerate). Actually I shouldn't be tolerant anymore. But I still am.

Whats your point? Are you saying that cus Tiesto is number one that he should play only tracks that no one else has? Tracks that people cant download? All IDs?

Well Sasha never did, Oakenfold never did, Paul van Dyk never did, Digweed never did....so explain why o why on earth Tiesto has to?
