Just to let everyone know, my sister is okay. She was actually at King's Cross Station shortly before the attack, so is a little shaken up. It just goes to show that you can go through life thinking that this sort of thing will never effect you, but in reality, it really could. But thank you to all those who showed concern, and even took the time to PM me. It means a lot.

Good to hear buddy, im glad :)

The western imperialization fo the Arab World has been going on since the 1800s, Islamic extremist terrorism started in the 1970s.

Really why isn't Africa going around the place bombing, why isn't South America going around the place bombing after all they were all imperialized, and I am from one of those nations in South America (Guyana). I find it hard that people like these can be defended. I am not saying you are defending such acts. Life is life and if it is to be valued a wrong in Iraq doesn't make these behaviours anymore right. The fact is some of these individuals come to Western Nations and take advantage of the liberties and freedoms there to murder others.

I'm black, maybe I should go out and kill some whites in the name of historical oppression against blacks, oops. That makes a lot of sense after all, right? As someone who studied history in school, history can be used for any purpose and intent.

We have indian/arabic numerals but we called them backward

We have gunpowder but called the chinese simple

We have fine china (ceramics) but called their art useless

Objects such as TVs, coca cola, cars etc are not what they are angry about its the exploitation of their people, the ripping off of their oil and the forces imposed on their countries by superpowers that force them to change their belief systems.

Im not condoning the brutal, inhumane actions that took place today in London but its pretty ignorant to think that non-western countries would be nothing without our influences and they owe us some sort of debt and respect because they drive cars and have televisions. should we pay homage to Hitler for the VW-beattle?

Thank you for not saying I am defending them as I clearly am not. The reasons I have cited for their acts are the reasons that they cite for their acts. They are fearful that their culture will be erradicated by the more pervasive culture and philosophies of "the west". This is why they are attacking us... it's culture war. The South Americans do not feel threatened the same cultural and economic imperialism because they share a common cultural history with us (European). As for the Africans I would suspect that by and large there is little angst toward "the west" because those that live in "modern Africa" have accepted western culture and those that live in "primative Africa" are not yet threatened by western culture and perhapse moreover they do not have the capacity to do anything about it in the same manner in which the Islamic extremists do. Regadless, the point is that the current islamic terrorism is not due to a desire to kill as much as it is a reaction to a perceived threat, a threat against which they are willing to kill people in order to insulate themselves.

I'm not saying I agree with them or even that their logic is sound, just that this is what they cite as their motivation.

No but we should pay homage to Spear for the economic reasoning that led to the development of the VW. Spear was a brilliant economist.

I hear you, I'm just sick of all this death and destruction be it in Iraq or elsewhere, that seems to exist within the realm of irreconcilable differences. There is no way you can work with people who share such beliefs about others, where do you start.
