| when does the snowboarding season end? :conf: |

i'd like to say mid-march for new york, nj, pa and anything south of CT. Vermont has a tendacy to stay open sometimes to end of march or early april.
Out west can go till april-may so i've heard.
this unseasonably warm weather leads me to believe that global warming has a direct effect on our weather. New York not nearly as cold as it use to be in comparison to the late 90s. Some say a warm front in the winter months means a trailing heavy cold front (warm in jan - freezing in feb). i have yet to believe so but am beginning to think that a cold/snowy new york is nothing more than a few dips, a sprinkle of white, and moderate to fair weather through out.
i admit last year we experienced some heavy dips in temperature, but nothing that stays stagnant over a period of time. i wish it were colder, all this rain is simply a waste of snow.
myth or theory, 1" of rain is about 10" of snow LOL what do you think? |

Most the resorts within a 2hr drive are pretty much thawed out. Next weekend we may pull something off. Well that is if the weather forecast is correct. |

how was that hike up that face? hahah
you have to work for powder like that... |

no hike at all. that building on the top right there is the aerial tram house at the peak of the mountain. if you were willing to traverse/sideslip through some rocks you could easily drop into this big wide open face with fresh powder. from what we could tell we were only about the 5th group of people to do it that day and it was aready after lunch...
a lot of the people at the place we went seemed to only wanna ski on the groomed stuff - a real shame considering the awesome terrain they had there. we weren't complaining about the lack of tracks though. :toothless |

i wouldn't complain either!
thats nice to see a bowl like that but aren't you concerned about the sun hitting it for however long aka avalanche proof?
not that i've ever first hand seen something so beautiful, i could only imagine my suspicions to prevent me from hitting something so big and untouched in fear that the snow will tumble close behind. i guess when you step up to something like that it's either go big or go home so i'm guessing i'd rip through it anyways hahahah |

Yeah, we were a bit worried about avalanches - the line we skied was actually right next to the path of a previous avalanche, although only a very small one. The bowl wasn't very steep though and plenty wide, so we figured if an avalanche did happen it would be small and we'd have a good chance of getting out of it's way.
Plus they have plenty of mountain dogs there so we probably wouldn't have died. ;) |
