Wow. I wasn't really a fan of ISOS4 at all, but this is great.
Negatives:
Transitions: The people in this thread are not lying. If you're expecting a smooth Digweed style flow to this, you're not familiar with Tiësto. Some of the transitions in this mix (cd1 has around 4/5, whereas cd2 has very few actually) have noticable key clashes and cue points are awkward. However, if you hear double beats in this mix, you need a doctor visit.
Positives
Flow:
The flow in this mix is incredibly spot on. Tiësto brings ups and downs, dark and light, yet does not stray too far from the original feel.
Feel:
This compilation has the In Search Of Sunrise feel without a doubt. It brings a summery, relaxing feel all over yet still contains that Magik sound. Listen and you'll find out first hand.
This cd to me shows that Tijs may be coming back this year, back into his old self. I hope it's true and it just might turn me into that superfan i once was. |
I must kind of agree with you, if he spins these records live for an enthusiastic crowd (let's say in the HMH 03-06) then the mixes will be great and we will have a wonderful night.:D |

Thats exactly my feelings too - while Tiesto has finally refreshed his cd bag with some top quality tunes, the mixing errors just make it impossible to really sit and listen intently to the cd as a chillout mix.
Nice you mentioned the beatmatching thing - the way the mixing errors are missed cue points, and the method of fading out of tracks - what do you think? Software mix?
As i commented before - hopefully a release party or amnesia set will be released with these tunes in the set, but understandably with better timing. |

Well he has been with BT for the past few days... I don't think warping 28 tracks and compiling them together in Live would've been that hard :p
Honestly the idea of mixing something straight into the board without software evades me as a good idea these days. If you're going to make a compilation, why not have it perfect?
*waits on you to comment on last question* :p |

| After my ears are used to the transistions (which are still bad but ok) I really find a problem in the pitching. Most of the tracks are just to slow on this mix compilation. It just makes some tracks dull, while they aren't dull when you play them at a speed like 135.. or even 133! |

| I personally don't have a big prob with the pitching, since I spin @ 133 and it's not that much of a jump for me. I can understand, in perspective I think a little bump in bpm every now and then wouldn't hurt, but I really don't see why we've gotten down to things as tedious as bpms... The album is a good one people. Go out and buy it when it comes out. :) |

| Good flow?? U must be joking. I think that is the worst thing together with the mixing. The flow is hard to find imo :( |

Why? The tunes that are on it fit pretty well and the flow is better then on ISOS4, the cd's are pretty solid and there actually is a good flow. Tunes blend in to eachother pretty good, sometimes a little weird and unconventional but it kinda makes it a funny cd.
Next time he should go study Holden's software mixes, this cd doesnt even come close to At The Controls by means of using the software right :D |

Some of the tracks that were selected to be on ISOS 5 are not that bad. But you guys are right about the mixing, it was bad and off key. But there is good news from Bt's site.

Update on Catch and Release.....were almost done!!! Thank the maker! Tommy and my band is going to be called By Golden Means, and were going to put the record out this year. I may post a track when we have some roughs. Stuff is BEAUTIFUL. |
I've personally considered BT as one of the better producers out there. Maybe he might teach tiesto how to mix and beatmatch since they are working together again. |

BT can't mix or beatmatch that well though. The only thing he can teach him is Ableton, which does the beatmatching for him :p |

Actually, I've had the chance to hear the full mix and that is what I've based my statement on. I'm not really sure what you were referring to with that comment. |
