guess thats how music works though. thats probably why older people stick to older music. most people seem to stick with the tunes they grew up with.

i just dont like when people justify tiesto's newest up by saying there just isnt good trance around anymore. there definately is.

That therefore begs the question - what is your (so much better) reason for Tiesto's latest up?

So I finally got a listen to it. I've only heard CD1 as of right now - but I have to say that I enjoyed most of it.

Pros:

Some good tracks were in there for sure. I highly underestimated the "Let the Game Begin" track, based on the sample from the isos.net site [the real deal is WAY better than i expected]. And Little Bird was an *amazing* ending for an ISOS Album. wayyy better than CD2 of ISOS4, and honestly, I think i'm ranking it up there w/ Personal Reflexion from ISOS3. I really liked it a lot! Malibu beach was a great opener too.

So, opening = good. ending = pretty damn great. stuff in the middle = not too shabby at all. I honestly, really liked the transistion from Let Me Be to Novacaine. Moonlight Party's a great one too.

Cons:
as already mentioned: transition from Colour My Eyes to Empty Streets is pretty awkward. didn't really like that at all.

There's a point in the Arise track too, that really caught me off guard. it wasn't even a transition - it was just part of the track, where vocals [i thought] should have stopped and it should have moved on. i didn't care for it that much.

---

I'm not sure about CD2 just yet, but really, this ISOS album has a great "urban" feel to it. I think the Los Angeles theme worked pretty good. Even tho the speed of it wasn't as fast as previous ones, i thought it was still upbeat enough to be heard on a dancefloor. Others have mentioned both in this one and in the MD thread, about the more house feel to it, and i think that worked fairly well.

1. Mixing, beatmatching, transitions (on most of the songs) downright blows for someone considered to be one of the best djs in the world.

2. Theres nothing on the album that is actually produced by Tiesto. He simply picked out a track selection, did a sloppy mixing job and released it. He souldnt be getting any credit for ISOS5 at all. But hes gonna be makin mad $$$ for it.

I do like the track selection however. Most of the songs are pretty good.

thats the idea behind mix cds...

mixing on CD1 is appalling. aside from the very first track on the first disc, most of the mix is a bore. not until it gets to the track by Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (Club Mix) do i feel something interesting and unique.

the mixing continues to fluctuate from slightly brilliant to just piss-poor until the end. nice tracks are used in the 2nd half to close with the beautifully done Cass - Little Bird. oh, and Funabashi's stuff nowadays sounds too much like Daylight. he needs to work something new and not hash old melodies/basslines lest he become Probspot #2.

CD2 review to come later, it seems to at least have a bit better of a flow and mixing is somewhat better but i need to give it more of a listen.

so far not worth the buy. :whip:

And really people, the mixing is not overly special, but it gets the job done.

Yeah I guess if you pretend some random bedroom DJ mixed it...its pretty damn good.

Wait what was Tiesto last year? Oh yeah #1...oh yeah...I forgot.

no doubt. but you made it sound like all he did was mix...what more could he do on a mix cd?

well I had some expectations for this ISOS and they were all gravely disappointed. A lot of the tracks sound boring to me, and it's not because I can't appreciate the type of trance that's not energetic and epic. I completely love mellowed out trance, progressive, and what not as long as it offers emotion. There were only a few tracks that did that on ISOS5, both CD's mind you. Tracks like Colour My Eyes and Let Me Be were the highlights, with everything else sucking. And what the is up with the transition into empty streets. Yes, tiesto beat matched it flawlessly, but the whole thing has ZERO flow. The two songs' keys in the transition clash, the synths just stubmle all over each other.

The transition sounds like Colour My Eyes is giving painful birth to Empty Streets!

The super8 vs tab track is good too. Hmm that's about it. The rest of the tracks are just boring, slow, and WAY TOO HOUSY to be placed on a legendary TRANCE series. If I want housy and techy tracks, dammit, I can listen to great dj's specializing in that genre -- not Tiesto.
