Why are there so many people who say so many mean things about Tiesto. Criticism giving logic and reason is one thing. But when theres no logic or reason behind it, then its just mean and nasty and actually lacking in intellect. |
Because if you're heard his early productions and sets (including mix CDs) such as the Majik series, Forbidden Paradise series, and Lost Treasures series (all from the 90's, starting in 94 I think), and even the ISOS series upto 3, he was truly great. He's the guy who got many of us into Trance/EDM in the first place (including me). Ever since then, one he became commercially successful, his production have become mostly horrible and terribly uninspired, along with his DJing. And I don't just mean the flow of his sets, track selection, and overall mood they create, but, even technically as a DJ, he's just become unbelievably horrible. So most people who say harsh things about him reflects their immense disappointment. And I think the fact that people still pass harsh comments about him or his current work is only a testament to how good he used to be. |

I couldn't have said it any better, I agree with you 100%. |

Very very ture. I agree with you too for 100 %. I loves his sets and early albums, especially ISOS 1-3 and his first artist album "In My Memory" :) |

I don't agree.
maybe not all tracks on "just be" are good, but at least forever today, sweet mysery, nyana, ur, a tear in the open are still today songs I very enjoy listening to. yeah, they are not compareble with his earlier productions, but this doesn't mean they are bad. tiesto sound has evolved thats all.
then listen to "parade of the athletes": euphoria, athena, olympic flame, coming home. great songs. and I would never call this tracks commercial.
last but not least his most recent production allure - the love we lost ist also really good.

again I don't agree.
yeah tiesto is not the best technically dj, but who cares. you can enjoy music also with such deficit, if you like the trance he plays.
I don't agree on the other points: the flow, track selection and mood is in tiestos sets much better than in sets of other djs.
and you can't blame tiesto for example when you don't like ISOS 4-5 or his recents sets, the tracks he plays. its not his fault that trance has evolved you should blame the producers and not the djs. |

THERES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING A COMMERCIAL SUCCESS!
Which DJ does not want to be a commercial success and be recognized for his work? We should be applauding him not dissing him for being able to make money out of music, out of doing something he loves and out of doing something that makes so many other people happy. We should be trying to emulate his success in whatever our chosen careers are, not looking for fault or mistakes when there are none.
I too loved Tiësto’s music from a few years ago but his music and style has evolved, like most music and most DJs. Nothing stays the same. Can you people not accept and embrace change as a positive thing?
I think its wonderful that the new ISOS 5 encompasses so many different elements/ genres of music and has made me more accepting and receptive of different genres. We should be thanking Tiesto for that rather than being stuck in the past.
I am not a DJ, but I did try my hand at DJing and went for lessons and I can’t hear all this bad DJing and missing that you are referring to. And as to mistakes during mixing, Tiesto did address that question in his April interview: everyone makes mistakes in live sets, even so called superstar DJs. |

Your points up to this comment are very true.
However, while any DJ anywhere can sometimes make an error, not all of them actually release Mix CD's with said errors in plain view. Forget the haters, the people "waiting" to bash Tiesto everytime he makes some mistake, this is elementary, BASIC traditional values that when you do actually make a mix and release it, it's of sufficient quality. No doubting the tunes used are up to Tiesto's standard. However nobody i've ever known in nearly 10 years in EDM has released a CD with so many ropey transitions in it. Because basically - that is the kind of thing you spend time in a studio ironing out (either by re-doing the mix, or doing some fancy mastering).
Unfortunately (and believe me i am a big fan!) for the reason i gave above this time around criticism = deserved. |

Please show me where these "ropey transitions' are. Maybe I just do not have a good enough ear for music to hear it. |

Sorry for late response, I've been working very hard (don't all start crapping on me for trying to be a commercial success in my job :stongue: )but it feels like I haven't been doing work but defending Tiesto all week (on another forum). I am so tired of all the Tiesto bashing and defending Tiesto. I can only imagine how poor Tiesto must feel about all of this.
Will try to take time off my busy weekend to sift through this thread and see what you're referring to |
