Wow. I had no idea this thread would get this big, or such a positive response from that many people.
What I'm gonna say here is not 'in defense' of my actions, but merely explain a bit further as to why this was started to begin with.
Am I going to apologize for starting this thread? No. It has obviously proven to be a topic thats on a lot of peoples minds, based on the rapid amount of replies (even if you dont count the off-topic posts). Other threads have been started before that touched to this subject already ("know your limits"), yet it obviously didn't have the impact that this thread has. Never did I name any names, then or now. Some people who I wasn't even talking about are getting defensive, and others who are defensive obviously have a reason to be. People I wasn't even thinking about are contacting me personally to say they're going to re-evaluate their priorities. If just ONE person comes away with them taking a good look at themselves, or gives someone the courage to talk to one of their friends about this taboo subject, then this thread has served its purpose.
Don't think for a minute that I haven't had discussions w/some of these people expressing my concerns. What have I gotten in return? Often lies to my face regarding their continued usage. Are there more people yet to talk to? Of course. But if they're just gonna 'justify' their G use to me as they have to others, I dont need to waste me time.
My concerns are NOT just in reference to this past weekends events, nor any one person's house either. I could name at least 3 houses that have fallen into the 'drug den' category at some point. If people are able to figure out who some of these people and places are, that's not my fault. If things weren't done in public to begin with, it wouldn't be public knowledge. Is this a public issue? Yes, drug abuse is a public issue. Am I talking about one person's drug abuse? No- there are too many people to list, nor would I list them by name either. I am also surrounded by abusers in my personal life (not just people on TA) and the cumulation of the two worlds is making me reach my breaking point.
Do I have every right to voice my thoughts? Yes, I do. Does that mean I think they are bad people? Not at all. If I didn't love or care about them, I wouldn't mention it to begin with. Am I being hypocritical cuz I didn't mention the evils of E/pot/alcohol/cigarettes/heroin/crack/food as well? No. The point is just like Jon said- there's a fine line between party and abuse, whatever your poison. Obviously, some poisons shouldn't be touched to begin with. I only mentioned those 3 drugs in particular, because it is those drugs that are becoming a PROBLEM for many people here, and have some pretty high risks at stake if abused. Again, I'm not here to preach against any and all drug use. Its the ABUSE that has become a problem, and people messing with drugs they have no business touching.
Again, to get back on topic, if just one person comes away with something positive out of this, it will be worth any enemies I'm gonna make for speaking my mind.
Party safely. Don't become a statistic. |
WELL SAID! |

ahh...it all makes sense now..I've wondered why the TOTA forum was made up of so many stupid idiotic threads and always get bashed by MTLers..I thought it was a bunch of 6 yr. olds making them..but it's the drugs..it all makes sense now. |

i dont know if you remember me, i was the guy who was completely sober at 9am dancing my ass off
yes people like me do exist. |
yes, its possible. i've done it many a times (with me ACTUALLY dancing at 9am) but i don't always choose to do it sober. just like you don't always choose to not drink that night. i'm sure you're nto an alcoholic, and i won't look down on you for drinking, even if it is kinda gross. |

im a chilled, i told you what my impression is of you because i have never seen you again after that incident. Btw you looked like you were either drunk or on something because sober people would not act like people around them dont exist. |
keep ur impressions to urself. if uve already judged me without knowing me, it shows quite a good side of u. one that stereotypes, assumes and basically is oblivious of the world around because of the myths stuck in ur head.
lol i hope i behave the same way around u again cos u dont deserve any better |

i sure never have or never will at the risk of somebody judgeing me.
also where do you guys get your information from???
its called sources , try and use them when you make wild speculations about anything |
That's fine - if you don't care about people associating you with whatever the joke is about, post away. Just don't discount the perception of you that you are creating by such posts. |

+ 11.333333.... Exactly! I've always believed in Mind Over Matter. It is much easier to quit doing things than one thinks it is. Self Control- the most powerful thing in the world! If its hard for someone, they are either weak-minded or just lack self control. Not a judgement, but my perogative. |

While I admire your intentions for this thread Nat, with all due respect, no one owes you an explanation, and you don't have the right to demand one. You absolutely have the right to express concern if you feel concerned, but demanding explanations and pointing fingers just makes people defensive and often just leads to people getting themselves in even further. You can't force people to change their behaviour - they have to do it on their own.
If you've had offline discussions with these people you are concerned about, I don't see any incremental benefit to airing the issue online when it is clearly embarassing certain individuals. |
