ahhh even cooler, maybe you can explain how they made the scene from Irrevisible with the fire extinguisher look so real.Best and most disturbing effects ever.Such an amazing movie.Who needs Hollywood poop. |
:nervous: that scene really sticks at the back of the mind even though it comes like in the first 15 minutes of the movie. I saw the featurette on the DVD explaining how they did the effect and apparently it's all about layering. Talk about raw. They also used special effects for the 9-minute-unedited-rape scene...
If you're into effects that make your stomach turn inside out, all-nite, I suggest you watch Hostel which is Hollywood poop with good effects...actually, that's the only thing the movie has in its favor lol.
| quote: | Mainly I was working on a scene that was taking place a long time ago, in a kind of maya world, where Hugh Jackman ( a soldier ) is left alone to fight about 30 mayas by himself. The fx was basically to make sur the weapons really reached the victims, and adding throwing lances that went trought the body of soldiers.
And a lot of non fx shots that you would never notice, like cutting out a technician out of a scene, adding snow, thins like that. I also did a great transition where you see a forest with snow, and a camera pan moves trought snow (and time) to see a different shot (a coffin), that was nice to work on. |
That sounds fantastic! The movie's premise sounds perfect: a man trying to recover lost love and find the tree of life in three different time periods..and that shot you mention sounds similar to the one I saw in the teaser, a crane shot replicated three times: (a) horse (during the Mayan period) (b) car (present time - where you see beautiful Montreal :D) and (c) spaceship (the future, 2050)
One review I read of the movie said that the film flows like stream of consciousness..:gsmile:
If there was one person who could take over Kubrick's reigns its Aronofsky :)

very nice explanation:D
I'll stop hijacking this thread as it is for Mr Lynch, but there is a documentary on Italian horror special effects that is very interesting(they have it at la boite noir but the name escapes me at the moment)That is why i am such a huge fan of these movies. It was amazing to see what a great job they did with hardly any budget and no computers.
Dellamorte Dellamorte so good.
Nick Hostel was a horrible movie, as much as i love seeing interesting effects, with little or no story its not the same.
The rape scene in Irreversible was so raw, vivid and well done, that you actually felt like jumping in the screen to save her.You know a movie hits the desired marks when it provokes such emotion.
Plus they managed to make Monica Belucci not look hot...a first for me;)
You wanna feel ill to your stomach, watch The Machinist;) |

The genius of that scene is with the camera: having it move in total frenzy in the previous scenes, for the rape scene, it stays completely stationary (for the first time in the film) and with no cuts it just makes you watch human suffering at its lowest while she reaches out to audience for help...this movie can't be watched too many times..
PS: Id still give up all my life's posessions and edm itself to be with her ;)

wow, i'm happy to see that there is ppl in this board that can actually have a conversation on something else than EDM.
Martin, u worked on aronofsky's new film !!! thats n sick man.
I just finished to watch the whole first season of twin peaks yesturday, it was soooooooooooooo good. i got a bit dissapointed by the ending, letting me hungry for more. but that prolly means i should go check out the second season and i will for sure.
what i liked about twin peaks...
1- Every single character in the stroy is intresting and very well developed, laura palmer ( i think this name will be stuck in my head for life), detective cooper (such a cool detective with intresting and weird manners to work), lara flynn boyle (sooo cute)... every person in this town is d up, its soo crazy !
2- First episode (pilote), is the best one i think, its the longer one, and the one that u get introduced to the story, the town, the character ... and lynch does it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo well.
3- The music in the film is sooo good, it's a haunting music that stays in your head, there is 2 melodies in the film that keeps playing during the whole serie and these melodies are sooo sick, i wanna take a sample of the opening melodie and do a d up track with it ahah.
4- The colors, lynch always had something with colors in his films, as kubrick did in many of his films(eyes wide shut, clockwork orange...). the city of twin peaks by the sunset, there is that purple tone in the sky, its sooo crazy.
5- I really liked lynch directing in this first season, he knows how to keep u on your seat and make u wanna see more, more & more. i've seen all the first season in 3 days, and i can't wait to see the second one(which i already know is not AS good as the first season).
the acting was ok not that great, but i liked kyle mclachlan's acting (the FBI detective) he fits so well in this role, lynch likes this actor alot, he makes him play in many of his films.
6- The whole thing goes all around this question : who killed laura palmer ??? at a point when u watch the movie its not only the characters that wanna know who killed laura palmer, but YOU wanna know more than anyone who did it, its soo obsessing.
i was kinda dissspointed by the ending, cooper being killed and then the movie finishes right away hmmm, and we didnt know whats gonna happen to most characters.
I guess im gonna watch the second season to know whats going on after, and that old guy with long hair(who was supose to be the killer) wtf happend to him, we have no idea, leo johnson (suspect being the killer) is dead, jaques renaud(suspect) dead, detective cooper(dead), james getting caught at the end of the film with like an ounce of bumps lol, we dunno what happened to josie packard at the end, we during the last episode we almost dont see the sherif of the town...
Funny thing is at the beggening of the episode, everyone was shokked to heard that someone, ''laura palmer'' a cute girl going to high school, is dead. by the end of the first season there is like 5 dead ppl lol.
You can see how lynch's ending are d up, but i consider twin peaks one of the more ''normal'' lynch film with wild at heart that is pretty normal movie compared to the other ones ahahah.
Yeah thats about my analysis one twin peaks... |

for once my friend, i would say that u're wrong.
u Talking about taking over kubrick's reign ??? man ur crazy
Films By Stanley Kubrick :
The Killing (1956)
Paths Of Glory (1957)
Spartacus (1960)
Lolita (1962)
Dr.Strangelove (1964)
2001: A Space Oddisey (1968)
A ClockWork Orange (1971)
Barry Lyndon (1975)
The Shining (1980)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
MT i've seen all these movies and i owe most of em, u can't compare kubrick to another director, his style is unique, kubrick will always stay kubrick.
by saying aronofski could take over kubrick's reign, i think its retarded to say this.
since when can u compare kubrick's genius of filmaking ???
aronofski didnt show this kind of genius, he has talents yeah, but im talking about genius that takes u in a journey like no others.
i'd say we wil have to wait about 50 years to find another kubrick lol |

All of this movie talk is inspiring me to start a Dario Argento appreciation thread:p
Kubric is hit or miss for me.As good as Clockwork Orange was, a film should be able to get its intended message across without having to watch it 4 or 5 times.
The Shining and Full Metal Jacket were pure genius.
The scene with the soldiers all singing the Disney Club theme song at the end of the movie remains one of my favorite of all time.
If you like great war films Apocalypse Now Redux is premiering on the Action channel this thursday. One of my top 5 of all time, and proof that the skinny Marlon Brando might just be one of the greatest actors of all time. |

| DVD killed great plots and good movies.I find that the last 3 years have been the worst ever for Hollywood productions. The almighty $$$ is passing before quality.Mystic River is probably the last real classic along with Million dollar baby.I cant belive that Dirty Harry can direct that good:p |

Hahaha, I said if and could ;) and I say it only because Aronofsky so far hasn't dissapointed me (i know its only 2 movies but both of them are GENIUS and the third one looks well on its way to being on the same level as the previous two)...If Kubrick was alive he would of loved Aronofky's vision I'm sure of that...
And I saw and own most of those movies, the guy is my favorite director and noone has come close to challenging him yet...Aronofsky looks like a potential tho, iz all im saying :)

I bet you hated 2001: A Space Odyssey and that's my favorite Kubrick film :D
I will never forget Vincent D'Onofrio in FMJ.
Brando IS the greatest actor of all time ;)

my gawd this has turned downhill like one of those sven threads.
One thing i sfor sure, Lynch cant paint if his life depended on it. Amazing at making films but not at painting. like omg my paintings are so deep and meaningfull, i paint with my fingers. |

Dude... come on... Irrevisible... that whole movie gives me a headache...
See the difference between Requiem and Irrevisible is that Requiem pulls out your emotions, making you feel from your conscience... Irrevisible uses different sound frequencies and ed up camera work instead...
that taxi cam shot is just blah... such a waste of 35mm....
Yeah, like a said Martin, the 2nd AD on my show last season just came off of Aronofskys set. She (the 2nd AD) was the inbetween for Rachel Weiz and Aronofsky when they were fighting. Then again, I'm sure it's hard to watch your fiance get into a bath naked with Hugh Jackman...
Hugh Jackman is supposidly a real sweety... 100% gentleman...
Either way, when I read the call sheets I got tons of little snippets of info... I can't wait to see it all on screen.
OH GOD KUBRICK
Path of Glory
Dr. Strangelove
2001
Clockwork Orange
Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Ahhhhh... I aspire to be this... ahhhh
Actually... a lot of the I write is directly influenced by Kubrick and his realism. He was honestly one of the best filmmakers of our time. |
