But I wouldn't associate the word celebration with remembering mass life loss. But I see your point.

And the amount of people on here that don't appear to know what 'rememberance' day is, frankly, staggering!

i agree
regardless of whether or not i agree, if i see something wrong, i correct it

i believe a better word than celebrate would be [i]commemorate[i], no?

heh and glad to see you didn't take my mocking personally :)
i love it when people treat this like its the internet, not real life

Yes, it's shocking indeed how the entire world doesn't celebrate a national holiday.

Sorry I miss your point? I wasn't aware that today was a holiday, it certainly isn't in the UK.

Or perhaps the significance of the end of the WORLD war is not significant enough fo rthe WORLD to remember?

I am more appalled that AMERICANS don't make a bigger deal with this, ESPECIALLY with their people at war now, and the amount of wars they have been involved with.

ing Americans. Sometimes I really despise their culture. (That is not including everyone because I know a bunch of you aren't total twats, so relax).

Please read what you said again. No edits. No deletions. Take a good look and you might just see in yourself exactly what it is that you hate.

Last time i checked it didn't involve the whole world. Given it affected most of the world, but calling it World War is akin to the US's World Series. I don't see you "commemorating" a remembrance day for other mass genocides that have happened around the world, some even more inhumane. So please don't assume that because it's important for you, it has to be important for everyone else. It comes off as a bit pedantic.

every football match today had a silence beforehand & will tomorrow. it's not something I know much about, only one of my grandfathers' fought in ww2 as the other was only 7 when ww2 began but i do have respect for those who did, they did what was at the time needed & I'm thankful that they did. However nowadays many people do forget, there's generations lacking respect

Rememberance Day is usually honoured everywhere with a minutes silence here, but because it was on a Saturday i think a lot of people forgot about it.

I was asleep during the "eleventh hour, on the eleventh day...." so i missed it, unfortunately.

we usually use it in a happy and excited manor, but it by no means is exclusively used that way

ing idiot! No one celebrates it, it's a day of remembering those that sacrificed their lives so that we may live ours.

Hardly a topic worthy of celebrating, rather one of reflection, contemplation and admiration.

And the reason rememberance day is today is because the first World War ended on the 11th hour of the 11th month in 1918.

yes, commemorate is a better word. next time i will have my pocket thesaurus handy. in the future could you try not to be so quick to call someone a ing idiot? rememberance day is a holiday i take to heart and i am very aware of it's history and relevance.

don't take these rubbish reactions personally.

There will always be people who can't moderate their feelings in regards to situations which they cannot control and somehow have to let the whole world know how angry they are .... this also applies to a 1 or 2 other people in this thread ....
