Why has 2006 been (for the most part) such a dispointing year for international headlining dj's in Toronto? Did they choke? Was it that we expected too much from them? Has the bar been raised too high?
OR?
Is it that our local talent stepped it up a notch this year? Everyone from Nathan Barato to Sean Miller (and many, many in between), I feel the need to remind everyone of how good we had it this year for local dj's...
Thoughts? |

- The more parties I go to, the harder it becomes to impress me. My expectations of a "good set" is a lot higher due to the amount of really, really good sets I've heard.

Same here. This is partly the reason why I don't party as much anymore. After doing this for a good couple of years, I know what I like, and I know how to pick and choose my parties. |

And at this point I'm saying that T.O. has the POTENTIAL of increasing our reputation worldwide, by promoting and marketing the talent we have in our own backyard. |
It's up to the DJ to do that though, and some of our more prominent locals are happy to be spinning for the same guys in the same bars 5 nights a week.
It's a decent paying living, but you're never going to have the time to produce and market yourself internationally with that kind of local bookings schedule. |

A few years ago, a well known TO DJ told me he/she was making around 55K ...and that's with a fairly busy local (meaning, sometimes Canada-wide but mostly Toronto) schedule.
I have no idea if that's net or gross, or how one would even go about paying taxes on a fulltime DJ salary. |

| just wait until there's more money put into The Toronto Island Party. i read that Toronto wants to compete with Miami's WMC. i really think Toronto can do it. have the big festival during the day/evening on the island. and i think there are enough afterhours to go around for wicked ass after parties. |

lol, given 5-10 years mebbe. Too much political BS in the scene that NEEDS to be overcome before we can throw parties like elsewhere. Also, (like others) I've been doing this for a few years and I too have been picky @ which parties to hit up. I'd have more fun at a cottage jam or local club/pub with TOTAs than a large Guv style event recently it seems... |
