Also, the only dj that made me go "Wow" in TO was Burridge...as for trance Ferry gets an honorable mention because I loved some of the tracks but there was absolutely no flow imo. SvD was ok but again, no direction imo. Bring ing John Askew, Signum (again as I missed them the first time), Ottoviani (one half of nu nrg), vandit style banging trance, or just Above and Beyond again as I had fun when they were here last and PvD. (yeah all of you who think he shouldn't come here).;)

very true!!! all of what he said!!
im dying to see Ottoviani!! and Above & Beyond are coming back in February I think.. I hope.. keeps fingers crossed.. and Pvd.. is not coming any time soon.. lmao..

I don't know who Ottoviani is but if he's anything like the Ottaviani that is used to be half of Nu NRG, I'm more than down. :p

Armin @ decadence was a big poop in the toilet.

Dragonfly was the best set I've ever heard of his. I've been unimpressed with Armin's sets in Toronto the last few times he's been here.

 :p

As for PvD not coming anytime soon, NYC in 07...:toothless
Also AvB used to kill it back in the day, hell they all did, now it's just a select few imo that deliver, we need NEW TALENT brought in. Talent that is consistent (new or otherwise).

Also, the disparity between exclusives and your status as a local or international, shirnks every year that Beatport is around. Anybody can get their hands on the new hot tracks and play them out, week after week. Its not just big boys with big tunes anymore. No where is this more evident as in the trance scene; everybody played the same tunes this year, no matter who you were. Lame.

Good point, but only to an extent. Being international talent hasnt meant they have all the exclusive tracks for a while now. With the digital DJ revolution, the argument that anyone with an internet connection can play the tunes is true, but to compose it, to add feeling, to be able to take the audience through a journey, and to master it in mixing cant be done unless you have skills that make you worth being the resident of a club, or an international DJ. You either got it or you dont. Knowing how to compose music isnt really something you can learn easily, and the ones with the ear for it and who dont even have to think about which tracks in their vinyl/cd collection go together best, are the DJ's that are going to continue to succeed.

Theres still a tone of music I hear in clubs and live sets i listen to that I cant find anywhere. People in the scene who are producing, and know producers, are getting all the goodies as white label etc.... I spend hours and hours and hours looking for tracks I hear in sets that I listen to and come up with nothing when searching. Maybe this is the new trend, to have the "exclusive" music as unavailable as possible, before the likes of the general public can get their hands on it from the net?

BTW, this is a great thread. :)

I think one of the problems is that we get the same talent over and over and people complaining about how they're not doing anything new, playing the same stuff all the time. So I agree...more new talent! But keep a good mix of old and new (otherwise I wouldn't get my Ferry fix!)

Funny how much we differed in our opinion of armin that night... esp since I am (or was) the bigger trance fan... but other trance heads agree w/ you MK, so I have to just chalk it up to me and my fading interest in dancing to trance all night (but not including listening to it, I still ing LOVE that!) Unless its pure pure epic or really uplifting trance, a whole night of it is too much for me now. Unless the DJ is a DJ that just naturally by merit of being himself or his vibe hypes me up and I end up somehow always enjoying myself regardless. :conf: :)

OR?

Is it that our local talent stepped it up a notch this year? Everyone from Nathan Barato to Sean Miller (and many, many in between), I feel the need to remind everyone of how good we had it this year for local dj's...

Thoughts?

didnt u just give me for saying the same thing in another thread?

Special K
I cant really complain with the too many of the headliners this year ... maybe because I was alot more selective when going out and I stuck with those that I knew I could trust with a night out? there are a few that I have crossed off the list from EVER seeing again but on the whole I wont complain ...

I hit alot of good parties with both local + guest talent this year BUT I will say that I can't really think of anyone that totally blew me away this year besides maybe one or two nights out! those nights are far more rare, and for me to have one of those nights I need to have a few hours of omg wtf is this super upfront next level that im hearing for the first time in my life. i dont get that with anyone on a local level and there are only a few guests that can pull that off with music that I actually like!

nights where I am completely schooled = the best kind of nights
