for me the standout international djs this year are...
Steve Lawler
Chus & Ceballos
Adam Beyer
Nic Fanciulli
Deep Dish
the rest were kinda meh. the locals really made up for it though. music at the gallery, drink & CZ have been mind-blwoing this year. |

Only 3 DJs really stick out massively in my mind has having MIND BLOWING sets this year.
They are
1) Markus Schulz at Guvernment back in Feb! I was awe-struck by the calibre of that set, esp based on how lack-lustre I'd found all of Schulz's sets before that one!
2) D.A.V.E. The Drummer (and Chris Liberator battling him... but with the focus for me being really just D.A.V.E.) @ WEMF06 this year... at the RENEGADE STAGE! (not the mainstage) Holy that was beyond words, that experience, dancing in teh sand at that wee hour of the morning with those who were fortunate enough to discover that that set was happening after the mainstage was shutdown!
3) Anthony Attalla (he is consider "international"? Im not sure... thoughts, opinions? Hes from Detroit, played Toronto many times, know he is playing Brazil for NYE... I'm not aware of the rest of his DJ locations though, personally) His Comfort Zone set a month ago in November was pure genius and beyond words, IMO. |

We as a community are so advanced in our music knowledge that it sometimes surprises the djs we talk to. We can name and talk about tunes that will be released in months and by people whom no one has heard of. Our taste in music has reached a new high. With so many people sharing such vast variety of music we have sort of come to expect such tunage to be delivered at " hyped " parties :)
With that being said now we the TOTAs in a club probably make up for the ummm say 10% of the crowd if that. The other 90 % hear what they want to hear from a certain DJ but we hear tunes that are " OLD " lolz. Majority of the DJs now a days play tunes that are more main stream so people can relate to them easily and be able to remember the name of the dj who played that tune. Sander K was prime example of that this year :) ... rarely do we now see a dj who will not give a fawk and play tunes that are " a bit risky ".
Our locals have been doing it well because they are our locals, not afraid of taking chances with tunes that are not so familar in the scene.
So in the end basically what i am trying to say is that it's our taste in music that has evolved recently which in turn has led us to much higher expectations from certain Djs who were a perfect score in past years. |

Toronto has been accustomed to a certain sound and type of party. If a DJ comes in here and sways from that they get less than stellar reviews.
I do not think it's a matter of us setting the bar too high but rather us liking things a certain way. And by us I obviously mean clubland Toronto. |
I agree 100% |

I just think 2006 lacked in musical quality across the board, and not just with int' DJs. I think part of the reason we precieved it that way, is because we set the bar too high, and the music really let us down.
I just don't think that DJs have had the selection of quality tracks which other years have provided.
Also, the disparity between exclusives and your status as a local or international, shirnks every year that Beatport is around. Anybody can get their hands on the new hot tracks and play them out, week after week. Its not just big boys with big tunes anymore. No where is this more evident as in the trance scene; everybody played the same tunes this year, no matter who you were. Lame.
Who blew me away this year?
- Digweed, but even then I knew what I was getting :D
- Beyer could have knocked my socks off, had I gone. |

| Since it was my first year really partying as I turned 19 this year, I can't really compare it to others. I will say musically though, the only set that sticks out in my mind as 1 guy being even better than he normally is was Adam Sheridan's set @ the docks. Even though it was empty on the dancefloor, barely anyone dancing or feeling the vibe since it was 5am with all candy kids and the sound system had heard enough, he still managed to deliver everything and anything you want out of a Trance set. Musically, this was my best memory. |

| I'd agree with Cribby for the most part. Also, the only dj that made me go "Wow" in TO was Burridge...as for trance Ferry gets an honorable mention because I loved some of the tracks but there was absolutely no flow imo. SvD was ok but again, no direction imo. Bring ing John Askew, Signum (again as I missed them the first time), Ottoviani (one half of nu nrg), vandit style banging trance, or just Above and Beyond again as I had fun when they were here last and PvD. (yeah all of you who think he shouldn't come here).;) |

Yeh man, I was talking about his Guv mainroom set, I would've loved to have heard him @ Footwork but couldn't go. Same with TiL. I love how he comes back...consistently good tech house...I want a trance dj like that to come here damn it. Also, yes Beyer would have rocked had I have gone. Grrr. |
