i agree to a certain extent

steve lawler blew me away, the best party for me this year if not ever,
his tunes were ing amazing and a lot of them are still being played by our locals

sander van doorn was amazing when he was here and every single person in that room loved him

chus & ceballos best set i've heard from them last time they were here

john aquaviva, seb fontaine, marco v

but a lot of dj's were a dissapointment this year like morillo, avb, trentemoller and many others..

I feel the same when it comes to that. Like you, many that I've seen before didn't play 10/10 sets this year... Sander Kleinenberg, Deep Dish, Chus & Ceballos and every goddamn trance set I've experienced this year...to name a few, have been let downs.
MarkT
yeah, I will say that I didn't experience too many *mind blowing* sets either...locals, like Nathan Barato and Addy, have proven to be equally as enjoyable as most of the sets from int'l DJs.

Lee Burridge & James Holden at Footwork...Freestylers and DJ Icey @ Orange Room. Those were *awesome* sets, for me. Above @ Beyond earlier in the year...stellar.

other than that...meh.

Burridge blew me away both times I've seen him. I also thought Demi's set at TiL was amazing. Not to mention Mark Farina@Sonic.

i think people are setting the bar really high now for djs. maybe a lot of you have been to the best party of your lives and maybe u expect that everytime you go out now. i know with myself my fav. party was Sander K @ Systems 11-25-05 and i know that nothing will ever beat that party for me. but that doesnt mean that everything else is gonna be . just gotta try the different djs, test the waters and have an open mind.

bastard, I'm sure it was, however I am addressing specifically parties in Toronto. lol (as I'm excluding, London, New York and most of all Miami from this 2006 discussion) :)

For this whiteboy, every party that I had huge expectations for was a disappointment, minus Lawler on Skybar.

Some of the best parties music-wise have come from djs that I liked, but was not a huge fan until after I saw them.

Some of the best were Axwell, Demi @ Freedom, Locodice, Seb Fontaine, and John Acquaviva.

And as you said Jon, Sean Miller and Nathan Barato are in top-notch talent. They consistently blow the out of whatever venue they are at. Toronto is extremely lucky to have these 2 guys.

edit* Sander K @ Decadence and Digweed @ LoL and Dragonfly delivered.

Thoughts?

I dont know if they stepped it up a notch or if everyone is just starting to realize how damn good we have it. This is an amazing scene, and maybe its true, we expect too much of int. talent from being accustomed to a certain level of excellence here.

Either way, I cant complain. This is a great time to be here, and with all the kick ass local talent(whom I might add are mostly worthy of being international) and all the international acts comming through in a year, I find only Torontonians are the ones who would complain about such a time :)

We are spoiled, which is fine, as long as no one starts taking for granted what we have.

But isnt it cool that we are comparing int. acts to our home grown talent? What other citys in the world can say that right now? Not too many I presume. :)

Much love goes out to everyone keeping this scene top notch right now. We have a lot of hard working people who dont get enough credit.

I've been to few parties this year, mainly because I've seen all the top headliners several times, and System closed, which was my home for a long time.

The most unforgettable DJs for me this year were:

Danny T in Montreal @ Stereo
Speedy J @ Gallery
Adam Beyer @ 99 Sudbury
Mr. C at footwerk
Lee Burridge @ decadence
Luke Fair @ TIL

The rest were okay, entertaining, but mostly meh.

I don't care for a lot of the venues out there. Footwerk is awesome when the DJ is on, and gallery can be fun for a local. My patience for government has wained incredibly, and I prefer to go in the summer when I can sit outside away from rude, jostling people.

I really can't stand TIL.

Funny part is the massive fanfare about how the year got started off to such a great start and how ppl were all saying that it looked like it was gonna be a crazy year for parties!! LOL

Funny to look back and see how that at the end of hte year your thoughts of it were NOTHING like how you really thought it was gonna shape up to be so enthusiasticly at the beginning of the year! :(
