i think my biggest disappointment this year was that Global Gathering wasnt a techno party where as the previous 2 were. this is prbly the only BIG event that i really look forward to @ the Guv and they ruined it for me (bastards). that and Guv 10 year. |
+1 I agree nigga...there was a serious lack of techno this year at the Guv. |

There may have been some parties but there was really a lack of International Techno DJs in Toronto this year. This year was the year of House Music in Toronto.....I predict next year will be more Techno.....its whats big in Europe and we are at least two years behind the scene in Europe. |

No there wasn't.
This year was an absolutely fantastic year for tech DJs in this city.
You just need to be open to hearing new ones instead of waiting for Dave Clarke, Liebing, Picotto, Hawtin, Vath, etc. |

I was thinking this the other day.
I haven't attended any REALLY memorable parties all year - and I usually only go out when an International DJ is headlining. My most memorable parties have involved being surrounded by friends with local (or no dj) present. |

I tend to agree with this.
Wink, Liberator, Carola... to name a few. Not that any of the names I mentioned are "new". |

Some fantastic points made so far in this thread, and overall I think it's mainly a case of us being so spoiled here in Toronto that over time our expectations build every time any international/headlining DJ makes their return to T.O. Everyone expects to have their socks blown off, so no wonder many feel "disappointed".
I do however agree that it's about damn time we woke up as a collective and recognized the MANY fantastic local dj's at the grassroots of our scene, from deep house to breaks and everything in between, we have some fantastic talent here.
Toronto is on the verge of blowing up bigtime, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in 2007...we have the potential be recognized like Miami & Ibiza, on the backbone of our locals, but there's one main thing holding us back, and that's the division that exists...too much politics.
Anyways, rant over...and to go back to the original thought of this thread, two of the standout sets for me this year have been Lawler on the Skybar as well as Digweed & Fair @ Dragonfly. Many other good nights in between, but for various reasons those stand out above the rest. |
