Really? There have been a few nights where I had to pick and chose one party over another because there was so many going on at once. There were also quite a few DJs that I missed and would of loved to have seen but couldn't due to other responsibilities like work / school / etc.

It seems as if techno has been on the raise this year in Toronto, and hopefully will continue this trend into 2007 :)

Then, toss in local talent like Jamie Kidd/etc, who have upstaged the headliners more than once -- and its been a pretty good year.

Toronto is on the verge of blowing up bigtime, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in 2007...we have the potential be recognized like Miami & Ibiza, on the backbone of our locals, but there's one main thing holding us back, and that's the division that exists...too much politics.

Toronto does not have wicked weather like Ibiza or Miami...

Plus we have ridiculous by laws that hampers good parties.

Now if Toronto had a Love Parade style party, then maybe.

But for now, Toronto has a good scene yes. But I don't think it'll get bigger in terms of rep.

Is it that our local talent stepped it up a notch this year? Everyone from Nathan Barato to Sean Miller (and many, many in between), I feel the need to remind everyone of how good we had it this year for local dj's...

Thoughts?

I have to totaly 10000000% agree with you on this one i find myself having more fun at parties were local guy/gals spin then the big events the music has definatly been top notch this year Props to all the local DJ's

I cant help but agree, but i would think that any major city's clubs
are way too political with other. Guaranteed Ibiza and Miami are...No?

Of course we can't match Ibiza or Miami in terms of weather, unfortunately on that front we're geographically screwed...but we do have 3 solid months of summer, and there've been many examples of fantastic events going off in the dead of winter.

And at this point I'm saying that T.O. has the POTENTIAL of increasing our reputation worldwide, by promoting and marketing the talent we have in our own backyard.

For sure there's politics in every city around the world, that's just a given...but it's how you deal with those politics and work through it to progress and move forward.

and in my experience, these are the DJs that are booked by smaller promoters in smaller venues that really take the time and effort to create an event that is about the music, not the money.

After going to see Liberator at The Big Bop, I completley agree with this statement! The vibe was amazing. I wish to be surround by it so much more, and less by the Guv/Sonic/etc vibe.

I would chalk it up to you being asleep in the booth for most of the set.

Yes. But thats why I was sleeping in the first place. I wouldnt have been sleeping if I was feeling his set more. (not being sarcastic)

+1 I agree nigga...there was a serious lack of techno this year at the Guv.

This is now a concern of mine... but not really, bc Id rather check hte techno out at these smaller little places than the Guv... but if its at the Guv, then atleast I have chance of sharing my night with most my good friends (who would prolly never go to these smaller venues with me, other than Blackness)

Actually, Carribana is a big street party...

Well, too bad the city council can't get around their anti 'rave' bias.
