| quote: | OTTAWA — Three out of four suspects tasered by the RCMP were unarmed, indicates a review of 563 cases that shows tasers are often used for compliance rather than to defuse major threats.
A Canadian Press analysis of taser incidents reported by the Mounties found that more than 79 per cent of those zapped were not brandishing a weapon.
In just over one-fifth of cases, the suspect had a knife, bottle, club or other weapon.
The figures, compiled from hundreds of partially censored pages filed by RCMP officers, highlight police preference for the 50,000-volt tool that helps them control dangerous situations with usually minimal injury.
But they also suggest a pattern of use by the Mounties as a quick means to keep relatively low-risk prisoners, drunks and unruly suspects in line.
Electronic guns have come under intense international scrutiny since the sudden death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski.
The national police force is reviewing its taser policies and procedures and is to report to Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day.
The 606 incidents analyzed by The Canadian Press took place between March 2002 and March 2005, the latest data available from the RCMP under the Access to Information Act. (In 43 cases, officers removed a taser from its holster but did not fire.)

There is nothing wrong with what I posted, and how da is it racist?we all have our own opinions on certain things and you may not like what I said, and this is simply a damn forum and you take it way too seriously. |
I apologize for my irrational outburst. Sincerely. This issue affects me emotionally very much. I am a very proud Canadian/Pole.
In my eyes there have been many instances over the last few years between Canada and Poland that have me torn as an equally patriotic dual citizen. (I will gladly discuss them if you are genuinly interested).
These events have left me with the feeling that Canada does not want and/or is simply 'making it difficult' for Poles to migrate to this country for no reason that is apparant to me.
I understand I overreacted to your remard as a slander against Poles being 'terrorists'. (I was not of sound mind at the time)
After rereading these posts...I can't say I disagree. Many of my family members are truck drivers who navigate between US and Canada.
Their personal accounts over these last few years all side with you. The US is becoming more and more facist with respect to its borders. Guilty until proven Innocent. (Again I will gladly elaborate if you are interested).
Sorry to snap.
The only light you have shined on TOTA's is one of global interest in our political affairs.:) |

I've been seriously looking into getting taser for protection since ATOS passed. 24 hour business near east hamilton can get 'sket...' I mean 'questionable' sometimes.
But after recent events, I have determined that I'll be much better off with a new dog.
He's here in 2 weeks. 'Training' begins the day the vet clears him after all his vacinations. |

But does that feeling really apply to this particular case? The officers who confronted him, didn't even know he was a Pole, they thought he was speaking Russian. |

No direct correlation... just wondering how can people on this board defend this one. The situation is really similar. Cops walk in. 1 minute later the guy is on the ground. End of story. |

you've got to be kidding me
clearly there is a distinct difference between the polish guy having a temper tandrum breaking stuff and a guy didn't show his license quickly enough |

Correct, that's what I was going for. 1. guy throws tantrum gets tazed. 2. guy doesn't throw tantrum, still tazed. |
