I find this unacceptable rationale. A smile shouldn't prompt an attack. Even if he reached into his pockets, the cops should wait to deliver the shock until they see a gun coming out.

Even if that smile is delivered with 'crazy eyes'? I disagree.

As for the gun...what if he was reaching for a cord to detonate a small bomb? Maybe he was just waiting for some authority figures to show up so e could make a splash.

All I'm saying is everyone is outraged and nobody knows what or how it went down. A little bit of information is a dangerous thing.

While I agree in general with your comment, I think you are reaching a bit.

The dude came off a flight. You'd think he'd have been searched and whatnot by airport security. (unless he's got a det cord stuffed up his rectum or something)

you have to see from the officers point of view. If the officer felt dangered by this man, well, he is suppose to make a judgement on what level of force to use to protect himself and others.

Not saying that the officer made the correct judgement, but just because the video later shows that the man wasn't putting a knife for example, but the officer felt that a man reaching for his coat could have been going for a knife isn't enough to convict the officer.

Exactly.

God help us all is the cops ever hesitate to make a decision on use of force of fear of a lawsuit...like the good samaritan principle protects people who do first aid but do it wrong.

The police are people. They are doing a job. I'm sure they all want to get home and see their wives and kids and dogs at the end of the day. If your job put you in the position of getting killed every day, and every day you had to deal with the worst our society has to offer, I'm sure you would be a bit cold and over-cautious, too.

How do you think the cop who tasered the man feels right now having killed, what could be, an innocent man? This guy got a call on his radio, walked into a potentially dangerous situation and made a judgement call that, regrettably, cost a man his life. People need to stop villifying the police and start respecting the risk they take everyday, on every call, and once in a while take the time to say thank you. Need I remind everyone of the funeral yesterday for a Mountie shot dead during a traffic stop?

Havn't seen the video yet, but I can tell you first hand security, police, RCMP don't joke around in the airport, one time when I was bartending at a bar a couple years ago and there was two drunks who were arguing and began shoving eachother, I called the airport police, low and behold within two minutes two ETF officers came tackled both of them down, boots to their throats and pointed their MP5's at them.

Regardless of the situation, I'd call Dannie Riel.

Cops should get respect for putting their lives on the line...but, thats their JOB.

Just like any other job, if you mess up you should face the consequences of your actions. They ed up, did not follow protocol, and now a man is dead. They should be charged and be an example to other cops out there...especially the trigger happy ones (like in new york).

No, it's not.

Being in a dangerous situation is something that may happen in a cop's career, but by no means they get paid for getting their ass shot off. They may have to do dangerous things, or put themselves in dangerous situations in order to complete their job, but they want to take as minimal risk to themselves and others as much as possible.

I don't think anyone here disagrees that the cops should be punished if they are found of any wrongdoing. The question is whether the cops ARE guilty.

BTW, how do you know what the police protocol is?

That's fine, I'd rather that then a freaking taser with a risk of death. Being physically tackled is not as severe in terms of incapaciation compared to a taser of being shot and the person can still be controled that way in cuffs etc.

Yeah this was before tasers were a standard weapon for police

Who's to say that he wasn't fumbling for his wallet, which was interpereted by the RCMP as fumbling for a knife or whatever.

Weapon? WHAT THE F ARE THEY SMOKING? Like seriously. Posts like these and videos like this made me effing ANGRY. Really.

Where is he? At the airport. In the customs area. Hence he has no friggin' weapons on him! He just disembarked the plane! Use your mind! He had no chance to talk to anyone in the airport that would have handed him a weapon, and he couldn't have brought one on a plane.

After going down, he resists 4, count 'em 4 officers for a good while...unless that was some kind of seizure preceeding his death.

Resists? WHAT THE F ARE YOU SMOKING?

A zap with a taser throws you to the ground convulsing like an OD'ing mofo with a seizure from E, crack, LSD, K and strobe lights. He can't resist, he's not Steven Seagal.

The best part is when the officer yells: Put your hands behind your back? WTF?

Retarded.

If there's a protest in Toronto against this, I'm coming.
