| Ah, didn't think too much of it really. If I wasn't told it was a remix of Finished Symphony I would never have known. |

Ok, so I don't listen to all that much trance these days, I'm not up on who's spinning what or anything, but I still catch new tracks here and again. I had heard slander about deadmau5 over at the cor, so naturally upon seeing this thread and all the hateful remarks, I wondered if truly they could be justified? So I headed over to youtube to check out some of deadmau5's tracks and then eventually check out the remix. So, some thoughts before I listen to the controversial remix.
Listening to Faxing Berlin now, this seemed to be the track recieving the most universal praise in this thread so it seemed like a good starting point. About 3 minutes in, I started fast forwarding in 30 second intervals to see if anything interesting happened. About 2/3 of the way through it does get pretty sweet, and although the track up to that point was boring me, it did work as a nice long buildup. Still very boring to me though, certainly nothing special.
Next, Not exactly. One minute in and i'm fast forwarding to two minutes, nothing was happening at all. 1/3 of the way in we get the same offbeat-with-a-slight-delay synth sound that was in Faxing Berlin. Gonna assume thats what people are talking about when they refer to the 'deadmau5' sound? Next breakdown is nice, would definitely work in a club setting. However, right out of the breakdown it goes right back to a very boring melody with that same offbeat synth. Bored again, fast forwarding. So the second half of the song (correct me if I'm wrong) was exactly the same as the first half, but with a soft additional perc line and the 'melody' layered an additional octave up.
Alrighty, getting the picture, on to the remix. Simple percs, but not bad. And there's that offbeat synth again. Breakdown came and went, didn't do anything for me. Wasn't really a breakdown actually, the percs just were muted for 20 seconds, then came back in exactly like they were before. Alrighty, secondary melody coming in, almost the exact same as the first, with the same synth, an octave higher and a bit wetter. (As an aside, I have a remix on my old hard drive of Nalin & Kane - Beachball by someone I can't remember who uses essentially that exact same bassline pattern and offbeat synth. Exactly the same one. These songs all sound like you tracked down the presets used for that track and used them exclusively) Ooh another breakdown. There are some strings, and some other stuff fiddling around, nothing that grabs my ear at all, in fact its kind of muted, seems like i'm waiting for someth....oh there's the offbeat synth again. Wait. waitwatiwatiwatiwatilajrehltuhdfk. Hold on a second, this is a remix of Finished Symphony? We thinking of the same Finished Symphony here? I'm talking about the one that Hybrid did, the absolute masterpiece. Just to be clear, i'm talking about about the song called finished symphony that the electronic group Hybrid did a while back. I honestly see absolutely no resembelance.
I see why people are so mad now. This bears absolutely no resembelance to the original whatsoingever. I agree, Hybrid comes to you and asks you to remix a song of theirs, well yeah you say yes! But here's where you and I differ, I think. I would say that, in that particular situation, the proper course of action would be to pour your heart and ing soul into that remix, knowing full well that you're given an opportunity to put your name alongside the masterpiece that is Finished Symphony. You slave day and night, trying to do it justice, but still making it your own. This has to be something not only that you are proud of, but that also can at least try to live up to the original in some respect.
And that is where you, 5ir, have absolutely failed. I'm talking Hindenburg levels of failure, the challenger space shuttle levels of failure, the recent movie adaptation of Transformers levels of failure. And at least those all had some cool ing explosions. You have nothing. This remix is ing terrible. I would think it was boring, uninspired, and terrible if it were an original song, but being as it is that it's a remix of Finished Symphony, it simply becomes an atrocity. You have done for Finished Symphony what McDonalds did for hamburgers, what Budweiser did for beer, and what Michael Bay has done for movies. You made it easily accessable to the general public, and for that I congratulate you. However, you also completely stripped all of the art, the magesty, and the finesse out of it, turning it into something that anyone who actually knows or cares about dance music should absolutely despise. You are a scourge in the world of music, and if these songs are what pass for popular these days, well then I guess I really haven't been missing much the last few years.
In summary (cor version/tl;dr): this track is an absolute atrocity, for a number of reasons, and I hope you die. |
This post is pure brilliance!
(But I like Transformers movie. :p) |

+1
oh, and by the way, the remix is ing nice.

Fragma - Toca me (Inpetto 2008 remix) is very similar in style to finished symphony.
Not a big fan of his new one, 'everything before'.

My GOD!
Dont you guys have anything better to do then argue about something as STUPID as this?!!!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but whats the point of all this back and forth messaging? no one forces you guys to listen to Joel's productions...infact, im pretty surprised by peoples reactions cuz Im a really big EDM fan & I have been for almost 10 years now..for a girl my age & my background, Im damn proud of it hahaha :p
I do agree with the fact that GOOD MUSIC isnt really based on sales n stuff, but if you guys are true EDM lovers and follow up with different DJ's sets, live shows etc..you will see that Artists from Armin Van Buuren,Tiesto to our own SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA are all supporting Deadmau5's tracks!
What does that mean? Does it mean that EVERY talented Artist out there that likes Joel's work & plays it has bad taste in music? Doesnt that show how much of a great producer he is?! and do yOu really think your opinions matter to him? Cuz if I was Joel, and big ass djs were playin my tracks & supporting it/LOVING it..including crowds who go nutttttts with some of my productions......I could honestly CARELESS what anyone has to say.
Joel, for your age..and the amount of time uve been IN this business, you're doing an amazing job buddy! I go to lots of shows here & everytime HONEST TO GOD ur songs come on the crowd goes craaazy..and that shows that you have lots of fans/artists who truely appreciate your music.
I dont have time or the patience to argue with anyone, so if you dont agree with me thats fine.. really dont care :) |

so basically all his tracks are good because all the popular djs play them and the crowd goes "nutttttts"?
and we shouldn't say that we dislike some of his crap productions which clearly show that pretty much no effort was put into them just because "Joel" should "honestly CARELESS what anyone has to say" and the crowd goes "nutttttts" "everytime"?
so basically what i'm trying to say is please off or stop being a ing idiot. |

It means they either like the tracks, or are just playing what seems to be popular.

Do correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't the original Inpetto remix created when Toca Me was first released. The 2008 rmx is merely an update?
Personally, I really like Deadmau5 tracks. Both danceable and listenable
