seriously, imagine if you will... youre 18 years old, making music on a PC at home driving family members insane, not having a dollar to your name, and just being an all around hack.

then you move out at 21 to a metropolis of sorts to try the whole "life" thing... which doesnt pan out so great.... then by some miracle a few years later... youre seeing thousands of posts, threads, emails, messages on this you do. It really blows my mind how popularity (both positive and negative) works.

on one hand, you have the people who would verbally slay you for actually doing what you love to do, and in the other you get some praise here n there... but at the end of the day, you keep doing it anyway, totally and completely detached from comparisons, criticism, praise, and the like.

I think one of the downsides to being "successful", and i use the term lightly here because i only feel that i've got years and years ahead of me to finely tune my craft... downside is simply that the masses in general fail to forget that youre just another person doing his thing.

i dont think any differently then someone who works in the insurance business, dental arts, the visual arts, construction, engineering...

for example, you would have to be an idiot to think that there no people in those sectors who arent passionate in respects to their feild... people dont become engineers because they "hate it, but the moneys good" ... or work with animals, etc etc...

problem with the music / entertainment sector is (as far as i can see) the only one in existence that is subject to such ludicrous scrutiny and critcism... but with that in hand, thats justg because theres no wrong way to do it.

theres defo a wrong way to build a bridge or treat a patient... so on hindsight, maybe the problem stated above isnt so much a problem, but somethign you just have to take in stride...

the music *business* and the art of *producing music*, are two seperate things... and both to me are a bit of a roller coaster. and roller coasters are in fun.

so in closing... im having fun. and im doing what i love, but addmittedly, you cant help but laugh when people take the pure "fun" and turn it into comparisons, ratings, and popularity contests. And even with all this said, im just subjecting myself more to some form of public view or another im sure... so bring it on i suppose! i geuss its a good way to develop some kind of mental disorder.... at least when i think of myself as Joel Zimmerman... that kid from niagara falls, or this "deadmau5" phenom / disaster.

well said.

i think for the most part people love doing it out of pure jealousy, but hey... that's just me.

Seriously doubt people are jealous of hanging out with Tommy Lee and making electro house.

:wtf:

despite whatever trip your on... Tommy's a in great guy allaround... in fact, i can't remember laughing hysterically at the most random as much as we did working in his studio for 5 days. combined with making music... and an unlimited supply of Jeagermeister... the sum of all the parts = one good in time, and memories ill keep with me until the day i die.

so yeah, i guess like you said... i doubt people would be envious of people having the in time of their lives? doesnt make sense to me... but i guess thats your take on it.
denys envy
i might not be jealous.

but i'm down for hanging out in the studio and drinking jager with ANYONE i know.

sounds like a great time.

actually, the "jealousy" tag is such a copout... i mean, i dont assert that people are jealous / envious..... just to clear that up.

sure, it's a concept... just gets thrown around alot. so sorry for any misnomenclature.

in theory, one might say.... maybe im "jealous" of tiesto, because of his acclaim and success.

but sitting here and searching my true feelings on the subject, can't say im "jealous" of that... sure its something to be desired, but jealousy is a such a stupid in word.
denys envy
envy is a much better word anyway.

Thats great. lol I'm just saying, I doubt when someone says they didn't like a particular track or remix, or don't like the direction you're going that it has to do with jealousy. It's a favorite card people like to throw out on here "Oh you're just saying that because ur jealouz", and an easy way to brush aside any and all criticism...but I don't think it always applies.

Also, I'm glad Tommy is a great guy and I have friends who are pretty close to him (you probably know photographer Drew), and I'm sure hes funny as (guy MUST have some stories) but seriously, what the is this "I'm DJing but not really actually DJing" ... :stongue: I mean, can you not understand how some people find it kind of laughable? I have the time of my life on weekends, and I hang out with some fantastic folks on a daily basis, when I go on TA and say I didn't like a release from X artists its not because I'm sitting in a basement eating cold oatmeal and watching the rain fall, jealous of some kid hanging out with a former rock star... :wtf:

At the end of the day, no one is forcing me to play your tracks (though I have), listen to them (done that too), or go see Tommy Lee, so I don't really have a problem with you guys doing your thing at all. I really could care less about this Hybrid track either...but people are always going to have an opinion on you when you're this out there, and I think, while it should always be taken with a grain of salt, I wouldn't dismiss criticism as jealousy in most cases.
