does that sentence even make sense? probably not.
still tho... you get my point. |
I've always found it amusing. The few people who take the time to argue never really have any epiphanies. They just spit out their opinion onto someone else and expect them to agree because their argument is "objective"
lol. |

This thread highlights one of the major things that pisses me off about tranceaddict -> the fact that it becomes a trend to hate the majority of artists, genre types etc that becomes really popular. |
anyone else stop reading right there?
it's plain simple. popular music will get more listeners, which means more people giving feedback, which in turn will probably mean more negative feedback. and the ones giving the bad don't 'hate' to look cool, since 'hate' is an instinctive emotion you can't help feeling. |

Your argument is right, but this is just about the stupidest possible way of stating it.
"People still respect acts that become popular, like Faithless."
"But Faithless were always big."
"Not only that, but their producer was big even before they existed!" |

also i find this track (as a tune in it's own right) to be pleasant but at the same time average & too basic.
as a remix i think it sucks.. there's so many elements in the original that could have been sampled or recreated to work well with a 4x4 backing but this is effectively a totally different tune, with only a few barely-audible bits of string giving it any resemblance to the orig. it kills me to think someone has had the honour of receiving such a coveted remix pack only to virtually fob it all off in favour of making an almost entirely different tune :/ |

what didn't come forward in my post was that Faithless became a very commercial band later in their career compared to their debut album. They moved away alot from the club landscape and flirted with the pop stuff. But they still had a wide fan base and are still widely respected both in the pop land and EDM land. I even saw an interview with Michael Stipe of R.E.M. where he mentioned them as one of his favourite bands. |

+1
I opened up this thread just now with the intention of posting something like what you said here^^. This deadmau5 track is not bad, it's just very average and forgettable. It doesn't sound like a remix of Finished Symphony and if i didn't know it was (or was supposed to be) i would just have guessed it was a random new deadmau5 track. |

| i think the problem lies in the fact that the original is virtually the 'stairway to heaven' of electronic dance music. not only that, but it is the crowning track of northern exposure east coast, the 'dark side of the moon' of dance music. the original track has such an emotional appeal to so many dance music lovers that if anyone would have remixed it in any way shape or form they would have got this same criticism. hell, you cant even play the original in a DJ set without someone thinking 'this DJ doesnt deserve to be playing this song"...it's that big of a deal to people. wheter or not Joel knew all of this going into it, i dunno, but remixing classics is remixing peoples emotions, and usually the end result is people wont agree with your reinterpretation of how they feel about the song. tragically, joel has been caught in the crossfire...welcome to being an artist. |

I would like to go on record that I was hating on this track and saying that deadmau5 tracks sound the same well before this thread got popular and all you haters jumped on the bandwagon.

i may not speak for everyone here, but there aren't really any classics i'd consider as 'untouchable' (as in, something that should never be remixed in any chape or form).. and whilst the original is a masterpiece no remix could probably ever surpass, i can hear potential for a decent one to be made nonetheless. say, if you skip to 5:27 in the original then imagine the following ~2 minutes with a driving oldskool pvd-style prog-trance backing.. i think that would be an awesome base for a remix
my main gripe here is just that it doesn't sound as if he took the task seriously. when you take on stuff of this calibre, you have to really put effort in to make it sound impressive and at least stand against the original, even if it doesn't surpass it. instead this is a generic deadmau5 track with a few tiny snippets of the orig.. |

I also don't speak for everyone but, 'Stairway To Heaven' was in my opinion the worst LZ song.
But ya I know what you mean :p |
