nice win for Torre in LA. stamp of approval from me on management.

watch Pierre turn into an all-star after this. torre slapped him down for a couple of games so he plays like he's supposed to with that contract once he lets him back into the line-up. gave saito some work too, he missed some spring.

if i had a team i'd want torre to manage.

As to comparisons with other parks... I've been to the Metrodome (Twins), Busch Stadium (Cardinals), Great American Ballpark (Reds), Camden Yard (Orioles), RFK (old Nationals), and Jacob's Field (Indians). It bears the most resemblance to the park in Cincinnati, which is also pretty new, but I liked this one a bit more. There is more open space and the vendors seem better. The mezzanine entrance is realllly nice at this park. It's also cool because as you walk around the concourse area you can always see the field (just like at the park in Cincinnati). So even if you're walking to the bathroom, waiting in line for a hot dog, or get to the game late or whatever, you can still see what's going on in the game.

Was a bit cold tonight (upper 30's), but come May this is going to be one fun venue. I am already looking at the calendar to see A. how many games I can afford to go to and B. which series look the most fun this summer.

Definitely recommend coming to a Nats game. :)

Hope that is better for you.

Out of your list, I've been to the new Busch Stadium, RFK, Camden, Jacobs, and the Great American Ballpark. I actually didn't like the Great American Ballpark at all, but I still have very high hopes for this ballpark.

If you can, I actually recommend making a day trip to Philly and watching a game at Citizens Bank Park and making a weekend trip to NYC and at least checking out Yankee Stadium (or you can try to also hit Shea Stadium too) before they close this season. All about the dirt cheap chinatown bus :gsmile:

Juan Pierre is only decent for fantasy because he steals. In the real world, he's pretty horrendous. .331 OB% last year, that freaking blows. Oh wait, I forget about his 41 RBI's. How about those ZERO homers in 668 at bats. 24 doubles for a dude that fast? ouch. Not considered a defensive stalwart either..with the arm of a Chad Pennington.

I'm happy the Yanks got Joe Girardi. With Torre, they seemed like they slept walked thru the first month of the season. Too lethargic. I feel any manager gets stale if they stay some place too long. Thank you for 4 championships but time for change. That's all. Younger more energized approach.

By the way, how long before Scott Proctor's arm just flies off? 2 months?

gasp just realized Gagne got a WIN even after that craptastic performance today. Sheets had a great game but haha....yeah the Wins stat is pretty overrated..

I'm definitely hoping to get to a Yankees game this year. My college room mate is a huge fan and lives up there, so I'm going to try and incorporate it into a trip to visit him. My dad actually grew up next door to Joe Girardi and my uncle was good childhood friends with him... but as a fan of small-market baseball, I don't know if I can ever cheer for the Yankees. :p

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about Great American? The city kind of sucks, but I thought the ballpark is actually quite nice. The main reason I said it reminds me of Nationals Stadium is because the concourse is similar - you can see right from the vendors down to the field underneath the upper deck.

I really hated the exterior architecture. Should have used brick instead of metal. Lacks the attention of detail that makes watching a game an PNC Park, AT&T Park, and Citizens Bank Park an awesome experience.

Having said that......................

The location was great, I loved seeing the views of the Ohio river and the hills beyond the outfield and the chili was top notch.
