While I somewhat agree with you on many of your points, I get a feeling that you feel it's some sort of 'moral' duty for Circa to bring in fresh talent to change the music scene in Toronto.
The fact is, number one purpose of any club is to make a profit, and I don't know Peter Galtain's partners, but I'm pretty sure they didn't fund Circa just because they love music. They want money.
If any club takes a risk and brings in unknown talents and whatnot, it's taking a big business risk. Many clubs don't have money to run deficit and we don't know how much money a multi million dollar venture like Circa has either.
If it's stupid, but it works, then it's not stupid. |
:wtf:
Sorry Yohan, but how many times has a post of this genre been posted?
Everyone knows that clubs are businesses, and that they exist to make money. TA is a place for people to voice their opinions of the scene, upcoming events, etc. From a business perspective, it is a forum where customers can voice their opinions of their preferences. Even if a large percentage of Circa's customer base wants the same DJs that we see in Toronto a few times a year, it is still worth it for club management all around Toronto to be aware of niche and upcoming markets.
It is a very common occurance on TA where a user will complain complain about the same old DJs getting booked and give suggestions on other lesser known DJs that they would like to see booked, resulting in restorts by other users giving the "a club is a business argument", implying that they should not have brought up their complaint (ie. preference (re: business perspective)) in the first place. |

If you refer to that set as minimal you obviously know very little about house music. And thats fine, you are still entitled to your opinion. Obviously though, it is uninformed and worth very little. |
Granted it may not have all been minimal but there was alot of it in there...
One thing it was is SLOW!!!

lets make one thing clear....circa is not the only club who is recycling DJs. Guv, TiL, Footwork, etc. are all recycling DJs. The clubs are all becoming VIP look at me clubs.
The problem with the Toronto scene is there are not enough people who care about or know of DJs outside of the ones that are BIG names or ones that have been here numerous times and club owners refuse to take risk.
Every club is going to have a certain percentage of people who will be there every friday or saturday and it doesn't matter who is spinning. The clubs are not going to loose that much if they take a risk every now and then......and the club owners need to realize this. What Toronto really needs is an owner who actually loves the music, has balls, and a dream to make the toronto scene something special. |
lol...
You have absolutely no idea of what goes on behind the scenes do you???
While I agree with the end point you're trying to make...its not for the reasons you say...
You're kinda talkin about the man who invented the Toronto club industry... |

You just got your hate on for Circa. Thats all. Because nothing you've said is founded on a reasonable argument. |
bang on.
so there's no trance at Circa...but Ornadel was just there. He's also not the "familiar name" you claim he is (hell, poll TA right now), rarely comes to Toronto, and I bet that none of the TAs crying for trance even bothered to go that night (thanks in part to poor promotion by Circa, I will add)
On that note, how many times has Tenaglia been here in the last ten years? I bet that can be counted on one hand...maybe two? How many appearances have we had for Simian Mobile Disco, Crystal Castles, Matthew Dear/Audion, Sebastian and Kavinsky...?
It's really hard for you to quote a FEW names in response to my post and claim that Circa is just recycling DJs...but you're ignoring the majority of who has been there. Compile a list of who's spun in every room...most are virtual unknowns to most people here.
Bashing a club because of their webpage? god, that's weak. when is the last time a club's web presence had an impact on your enjoyment of a night there? LMFAO...get real.
as for the crowd not knowing who's spinning...that admittedly annoys me too. But a good chunk of the crowd on any given night at Guv doesn't even know who the Mark Oliver is, let alone any guest DJ booked who's name isn't Armin, Ferry or Sander. I'm sure the numbers are worse at most other big clubs.
I will say that Circa's promoters have a long way to go. Pretty flyers with no DJs listed will not do here...people are more savvy here and want details. Circa is also not catering mainly to a savvy EDM audience though...which I suspect is the real reason that you and others here express negative attitudes or disappointment toward Circa. |
