The ring should be completley up to him.. (or her - it should be however the people are most comfortable)
I would hope that he would be thoughtful enough to take into consideration my likes and dislikes - knowing that the person that I marry will carry these traits.
The ring should be something he is proud to see on my finger.
We need to let some part of marriage/wedding rituals be handled by them.. we will have enough to do with the wedding planning.
Also a good thing to remember that they are likely just as excited to express how they feel as we are to receive it. |

Tis true. My sister did a ring course which ultimately led to her designing and making his and hers wedding bands. They turned out amazing. |

Doesn't really matter to me. I won't even be able to wear rings most of the time in my line of work...so the simpler the better.
I'd take a bigger pair of diamond studs for my ears though! :D |

Seriously, when I am in the position that I have been dating a girl, and am at the point I feel it is the right time to propose, the engagement ring will be 1 piece to a set that ulimately becomes her wedding band. I will have it fused so that it becomes one ring. I don't see the point in having an engagement ring that is used temporarily. Total waste of money.
