She's boarding the plane to Brazil in a few hours, and I'm going to meet her in the airport the day after tomorrow with her favourite treat.

I don't think this first year has been difficult, at all. We talked to one another on Skype every 12 hours or so, and occasionally sent an e-mail/made a phone call whenever one of us couldn't show up.

It was a somewhat difficult year for her, but not without success. She's now enrolled as an official student there, and she's found quite a few good friends. Oh, and apparently, the Chinese adopted her as one of their own :p

As for me, this year has been splendid: there was a more than a twofold increase in my monthly income, I finally redeemed myself in grad school, I got a job as a temporary lecturer in a different department and, for the first time ever, I see really positive results after working out at the gym relentlessly almost every single day. I did hang out with (female) friends occasionally but, no, I didn't feel the urge to get busy with any sort of collaborative activity concerning the perpetuation of humankind - nor, I presume, did they :p

Status: So far, so good :)

Nice to hear.

Thanks, guys :)

But, I must agree with Renzo here: relationships in our society (regardless of distance) fail far more often than they succeed... for obvious reasons. No cuntness there :D

props lira. you give me hope that maybe i can find the right girl eventually and it'll work out... ok maybe not, but it was a pleasant thought for a second there.

I said 99% of them don't work out because we are in the topic of long distance relationships :p but I think you're pretty good so far Lira.

Meh, you're not an Renzo, it's true.

i've done it... short-long distance and long-long distance.

it takes an incredible amount of commitment, as well as open and honest communication. as long as you've got that, you'll be fine.

it can also be a test as to whether or not that person is really the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. i'm assuming she is, considering the fact that you two are now engaged... so i wish you both the best of luck.

Except for people like Lira. Otherwise, they still don't work.

I think the people that were in a long distance relationship when this thread first started are now single lol. (except Lira)

a girlfriend of mine hasn't seen her husband since february lol he's a pilot and has been in argentina the whole time (he flies private jets). i felt so bad for her when she told me, i def couldn't do it. i think they get to see each other next month though and then she's moving to argentina with him in december.
