Yes they aint open source, but they have applications gallore.
iPhone's main points of interest:
- More powerful processor than a PSP.
- Most advanced touchscreen device on the planet.
- Smooth as sex to the touch.
The bad:
- camera
- Hate from people who think Nokia still rules the roost.

I have the Blackberry Storm and i have to say i love it. When it came out it really was a POS. I was just about to throw it against the way. Now it is alot better. Alot better, but not perfect. I'm sure RIM will get it right soon though.

lol with the "more powerful than a PSP" line you sound like an Apple marketing guy. Cut the bull and talk about real . The cpu in the iPhone is the almost same speed as the HTC Touch Pro, Xperia X1, and a few others. 620Mhz vs 528Mhz.
The applications thing is a crock of too. They may have 50 million apps, but a good amount of them are pointless. Most of the apps on the G1 aren't. Same with the Windows Mobile phones.
I say get the G2 as it is coming out this year, but since you are looking to get one now, the HTC Touch Pro, Xperia X1, LG Renoir, Meizu M8, or something of those types.

Slick interface... big screen.... and that's about all the plus points for the phone imo.
Big screen, crap resolution.
Loads of apps, most of which are pointless self-masturbatory things that just 'show off' the acellerometer and such, serving no functional purpose.
If I had to pick a phone of similar dimensions, Touch HD every time.
The iPhone is great for the average punter though, which is why it is successful (along with the Apple brand).
