i'd say the HTC touch or the omnia is a good choice. windows mobile 7 (or is it 6.5? can't remember) looks sharp, more functional than previous versions, threaded txting, lots of add-on software that you can find for cheap or free. i <3 windows mobile.

6.1 is the current incarnation, 6.5 is out later in the year, and 7 around the end of 2010.

I have a White 16gb iPhone currently! Was thinking about selling to replace it with the X1, I went to CPW and had a play with it and I didnt didnt think it was as nice or refined as the iPhone. Windows mobile looks after using the iPhone so im gonna wait till Nokia bring out the N97 so I can have a play with that!
The N97 looks to be a great phone so I think i'll change to that when it comes out

Threaded texting came with 6.1. Also, FlashLite 3.1 has been added (via custom roms) and you can get many things on these devices now.
I have FINALLY settled on my next device, since it has been shown to be coming to T-Mobile US.
Garreth: I played around with that thing a month ago. Get CRCs Device Update. You will thank me later if you haven't already installed it. :)

It will have 6.1 but 6.5 will get ported to it.
Nik: July 22nd is the rumored release date (it was just leaked). As kr00t0n said, it is the Touch Pro2, but it will be called the Wing II according to the rumors. We will see though. No official docs have been leaked.
