Nothing at all. But purposely putting out sexy signals to guys who are supposed to be in the "just friends" category is a problem, imo. |

exactly, I'm not on the hunt for women now but back when I was if I met a girl and she was cool and smoking hot and I was interested in her as more than a friend I just come right out and tell her. What is the ing point of developing a secret crush on her and hoping something more will develop? |
(Seriously though, I really don't think telling is the right approach. It's akin to saying "Hey, do you wanna be my friend?" :p) |

10/10 for xkcd usage. |

I think that particular xkcd was pretty weak really. The whole "girls date jerks and leave nice guys alone" thing has to be be the most tired story in webcomics.
Xkcd is good because it doesn't usually deal in the mundane and boring material that a lot of comics rely on. |

What is the ing point of developing a secret crush on her and hoping something more will develop? If you just flat out tell her then one of two things happens:
1. she feels the same way about you and now you know it so you can go after her if you want
2. she doesn't feel the same way so if you decide to still be friends with her you already know its pointless to develop feelings for her because its going nowhere. of course that doesn't mean you won't go out and get wasted with her some night and end up having meaningless sex but thats all good too |
Hey that second part is the secret! You can't let everyone know that. |

In that particular case, it's clearly a parody because, those guys that are too afraid to do something about their feelings usually see themselves as being "too nice" and thus blame the girls (and the guys they date) for his cowardice. |

Of course not. That's far from being the only choice.
When you befriend someone, do you actually say "Hey, you're nice, I'd like to be your friend" or anything of that sort? Of course not! You just act like a friend!
Likewise, when you meet a girl you fancy, you act like it! This may include a compliment here and there, but the more you make explicit, the more likely it is to turn a woman off. |

doesn't matter, 99% of people won't act that way anyway because they are too scared of rejection |
I don't see what there is to be afraid of when you don't have anything to lose in the first place. You walked in with no , and if you up you're walking out with no , if you don't try it counts as ing up since you're still walking out with no . |

That's why picking up chicks gets easier after you're married... if you up, big deal - just go home and do your wife. |

Being someone's friend and being someone's BF/GF are kinda different. With the BF/GF scenario their is always that turning point where you first start referring to them as your BF/GF.
With friends you usually just meet them and then start hanging out with them more and more. Their is no "yay we're friends now!" point. At least in my experience this has been the case. |
