I really hope they sort this out. River Gambler is my favourite boat

Are there stricter noise restrictions this summer? Both Rock the Boat for most of the cruise, and Reign had the sound kept right down. It really affected everyone's ability to get into it. Most people were just standing around talking at both parties.

Also, the River Gambler was not allowing sunscreen to be brought onto the boat. I am very surprised by this. I don't even know if I'll be able to go on boat cruises during the hotter months of the summer if I'm not allowed to bring sunscreen on. Are other boats doing this too?

I was talking to this woman at the end of the cruise who seemed to be in charge of the boat and she claimed its their last attempt to try and stop people from bringing G onto the boat. They have had way too many problems with people G'ing out and all that comes with it that have implemented this rule. Its kinda sad that it has come to this but if you saw the end of the boat and the number of people who obviously don't know their limits. As we pulled out there was one guy stumbling around the parking lot alone looking like he was trying to find a car...dude barely had any control over his motions.

Not that it matters but I think that may have been the last cruise I go on for a long time. I could care less what people choose to do in terms of drugs or drinking or whatever...but when their actions start to effect the enjoyment of others it pisses me off. If you OD in a club most are prepared and know how to handle it and for the most part it doesn't effect the other people at the party. However, if you decided to go overboard (pun intended) on a boat when you're in the middle of the lake you're going to end up ruining for everyone. It just seems like these cruises are getting worse and worse for this. I have a bad feeling we're going to be reading about some "tragedy" on one of these cruises this summer.

End of rant...

thankfully since the pants girl on our first cruise last year we haven't had any issues.

5 cruises and counting.. hope to keep the streak alive! *crosses fingers* :p

Just a heads up for everyone that we're (Beats Ahoy!) going to address these issues with the River Gambler tomorrow and find out whats happening. We are aware that due to complaints from the island residents the noise restrictions are being enforced strictly this year and that going in and out of harbour the music will be a little quieter, however none of the boat operators have told us it would be off completely. The Beats Ahoy! cruises always have 2 decks of music though and there are no restrictions for the inside setup going in and out of harbour.

Secondly, the sunscreen issue seems totally absurd. If needs be we will buy a bunch of sunscreen and make it available to you for free since the idea of dancing in the sun for 4-5hours without access to sun protection is ridiculous and pretty negligent on the part of the Boat company. I'll let you know what they say and report back. Either way, we'll get some sunscreen on the boat for you even if we have to do it ourselves.

Indeed it is negligent and completely unreasonable. I have serious reservations about attending a cruise on that boat until I'm satisfied that this ridiculous ban has been lifted.

To add insult to injury, while I was applying the sunscreen that we finally convinced the staff to let us apply under their supervision in the captain's area, one of the crew members took the sunscreen I was using and used it on himself. "It's gotta' be done," he said. What I want to know is how they can expect us to go the whole cruise without applying sunscreen, when they themselves admit the necessity of wearing sunscreen while being exposed to the sun for that long a period.

I appreciate the fact that this is being looked into. Please do report back.

cruising into harbor with no tunes on at all.

Let me expand on this...30 minutes before the cruise ends is going great and the party seems to be hitting its peak nicely, everyones having a good time. Then audiofly thanks the crowd turns down the music.

After seconds of silence, he then plays his last song a 10 minute dragged out epic summery tune with some deep basslines. Yayyy, thanks the crowd again and the music stops. Confusion ensues. Audiofly motions he got cut off and can't play anything. Promoters take the mic and thank everyone for coming out again and complain that they were forced to shut the music down.

The crowd of partiers anxious for more sick beats for their feets get restless. Then 2nd promoter gets on the mic and tries to get the party started up again with some cheering and yelling and wooooooooo's, asks for an ipod to plug in and subsequently begins to try to make a beat by tapping the mic. Tapping the mic, trying to make a beat. This went on for...oh about 5 minutes.

After minutes of horror and laughter, our beloved local dj's figure some out and turn the music back on. So for the last 12-15 minutes of the cruise, we listen to The Junkies We Love Toronto Podcast Volume 10...

holy how could i forget...during the 15 minutes of listening to the junkies podcast playing...promoter #3 gets on the decks and starts randomly cutting out the music and playin with echos and effects...uhhh...how about no.
