I just spoke with the people at the Gambler and here's what they had to say..
First, the music, as always, will be quieter for the first and last 20 minutes or so as we leave and enter the harbour. The restrictions are the same as last year. They also said the reason there was no music at the end of the cruise this past Sunday was because the dj was upset that they turned the bass down and decided to stop completely. I wasn't on the cruise and can't vouch for that, but according to the Gambler, that was the case. For all of the Beats Ahoy! cruises we have 2 dj set ups and the inside set up is always full tilt start to finish :)
Secondly, they wont be allowing sunscreen on The River Gambler. They want to do everything they can to keep drugs off the boat and this an extreme they're willing to go to. Kind of insane if you ask me, but it's their boat and their decision. That said, for Beats Ahoy! cruises we'll have a whole bunch on board for you that we'll have at the Dj booths and bars we'll make sure the hosts know where you can find some at any time throughout the cruise. It's annoying, but it's a small problem with a pretty simple solution. So what do people wear these days? 30? 45? 60? lol.. we'll try to get y'all some options.
It's also important to note that I also spoke with the folks at the Captain Matthew Flinders where our Canada day cruise is being held, and they have no problems with people bringing sunscreen on board. They also confirmed the upper deck volume will be lowered, but not off coming in and out of the harbour.
Lastly, Beats Ahoy! has taken extra steps this year to get our cruises to leave on time. We hired extra security for all of our boats to speed up the boarding process, and will be using 2 boarding areas on the Gambler cruises so please do your part and arrive on time and encourage anybody you know to do the same. We dont wait for people. Period. Just ask the Roaches ;)
Keep in mind I can only speak on behalf of the Beats Ahoy! cruises, but I hope this adresses the concerns.
See you Canada Day!

So I guess the boat operators trust the promoters not to bring in sunscreen containers full of GHB? :)
Sounds like the issue is really quite concerning though. I'm sure they would rather not have to do this. |

Thanks for taking your time to investigate and write this. I really appreciate it. I'm glad that you will be bringing sunscreen on the boat, and hope other promoters will follow suit. Being on a boat for 4-5 hours without applying sunscreen, even if it was applied right before boarding, is simply not safe for your skin.
As for the sound, I really think it was quieter than I remember it being last year, but then again I only went on two cruises. Can anyone else comment on this? |

I wasn't on rock the boat, but on the first Beats Ahoy! this year, the outer deck was about the same level going out as i remember it being last year. For some reason it also seems like coming back its always louder then going out? |

i got burned on this cruise, i didn't even feel it untill someone pointed it out to me later that day, i looked in the mirror at the washroom and my face and neck were all burned/red..
it wasn't even that sunny at all, rtb crew definitely need to think about this issue, if it was really sunny that day 80% of the people on the boat would have serious skin burns.
The cruise was still really fun though with many friends and laughs. Audiofly played a good set but like G said it wasn't loud enough, you had to go right to the front to enjoy tunes which i didn't really mind.. Feels like sound restrictions are much stricter this year which really pisses me off.. as chinamon mentioned even Skybar had to close early because of the fagg0t islanders complaining about loud noise.. |

Although from my other comments in the Boat Cruise thread I no desire to go on a cruise for a long time. I have to say its this kind of respect why FW is now my go to club. You listen to concerns and complaints and while you may not be able to fix them you address the situation and try to do something about it.
Toronto needs more clubs and promoters like you. |

Echoed my thoughts exactly there, Jay. I am always impressed with Stef, Joel, Evan and Jon's way of dealing with things and I love that the club supports TOTA and D2DB. I have had some of my best nights at FW and will continue to support.
See you there for Burridge? |
