Of course... is seeing a big DJ that much different than a concert event at say the Molson Amphitheater? Is it not a celebration of life and music and culture today?

In my opinion something like Green Velvet on a boat cruise is much more artistically/culturally relevant than a ing Nickelback concert...

if it was jazz music being played on a boat or in a club it wouldn't be anymore a cultural event then this is.

If you went to an AC/DC concert you wouldn't think of it as a cultural event.

There is difference between a cultural event and a gathering of people with a common interest.

There may be some debate about whether a specific, regular Guv Saturday is a cultural event, but regular Guv Saturdays in general are certainly an aspect of this city's culture.

seeing a concert at Molson Amphitheater is not a cultural event either....its going to see a concert. When I'm sitting at home watching TV with my friends I don't consider it a cultural event and we don't think of it as a celebration of life and TV and laziness.

You are right...its part of the city's culture....but its not a cultural event.

I am not suggesting that boat cruises are not part of the city's culture, the younger culture, or the music culture. They are just not cultural events.

So if a Jazz band was playing music live on a boat it wouldnt be a cultural event? :conf:

Gathering of people with common interst - TOTA wing night
Cultural Event - Mark Oliver in Guv.

I dont think WHERE the event is being held effects whether it's culture or not.

A Jazz Band playing music on a boat is not a cultural event....its a concert on a boat.

TOTA Wing Night....is not a cultural event just like Saturday Night at Guv is not a cultural event.

DEMF would be a better example of a cultural event but seeing Carl Cox at DEMF is not a cultural event....its just a small part of the actual event.

OK
boat cruises are cultural events of this city, we have water by the city which has ing boats on it which is a part of the culture of the city. Promoters have events on those cruises be it ing jazz/emo rock/minimal underground pop blues. The point is islanders are annoying as and need to stfu. The cruises are during the day, not at 12am-5am.

^^ agreed.

quote:
In the twentieth century, "culture" emerged as a concept central to anthropology, encompassing all human phenomena that are not purely results of human genetics. Specifically, the term "culture" in American anthropology had two meanings: (1) the evolved human capacity to classify and represent experiences with symbols, and to act imaginatively and creatively; and (2) the distinct ways that people living in different parts of the world classified and represented their experiences, and acted creatively.
