funny you say that, because mother nature is doing that on her own. don't remember where, but i read that part of the island is being eroded away because of the leslie st. spit.

OK
boat cruises are cultural events of this city, we have water by the city which has ing boats on it which is a part of the culture of the city. Promoters have events on those cruises be it ing jazz/emo rock/minimal underground pop blues. The point is islanders are annoying as and need to stfu. The cruises are during the day, not at 12am-5am. |
I'm sure the islanders say the same thing about the boat cruises......fortunately for them they have the City of Toronto on their side. |

I'm sure the actual content and/or substance of a cultural event differs for the islanders.
The point here is really that 'culture' is a construct - it's relative. The argument people are making is that the rules being put in place have negative impacts on youth/party/dance music/what have you culture.
You make a good point, the city is likely to defend/place higher value on the cultural values of its major constituency. That doesn't mean it's right, just or fair though. |

The passion in this thread is inspiring. I look forward to seeing it redirected towards those individuals/efforts that possess the viable means to generate real change. ‘Strengths in numbers’ might work, but who will get it organized… or is unity under association even necessary?
Maybe some contact information for us to use to pester is a good start. |

I wouldn't call Toronto Island part of downtown Toronto. |
They're 400 metres from shore
They're part of the Toronto Centre municipal ward.
They're part of Toronto Centre provicial riding
They're part of the Trinity-Spadina Federal Riding
Call them what you want, but geographical location and the city of Toronto, province of Ontario, and government of Canada all imply otherwise. |

| The boat parties are definitely a part of the culture.....they are not all encompassing but a small part of the bigger picture of this city..in my opinion all of the pieces are important...festivals, parades, boat parties..etc...I would even consider the cherry beach parties to be cultural...if you start taking all these small but significant events and gatherings away or limit their ability to thrive, the cultural map of Toronto would slowly become extinct and BORING... |

seeing a concert at Molson Amphitheater is not a cultural event either.... |
would you consider it a cultural event if it was punjabi music.. or maybe some bhangra? |

If it was just a concert where a punjabi music band was playing....no.
If there was a Punjabi Festival going on in Toronto and they were performing as part of the festival then it would be a part of the cultural event. |
