The reason why I don't go on boat cruises is because of the crowd, it just strikes me as a little too hard core for me. And based on what I've heard from people who do go (and comments in this thread) - and the fact that the operators have to ban SUNSCREEN in the SUMMER just to keep G off the boat - I don't think I'm too far off base. |
Maybe I'm completely oblivious to things but I've yet to experience a 'bad crowd' on a boat. I've only done 3 cruises but the vibe has always been amazing, everyone happy, and not sketchy at all. You get the odd really drunk idiot - but that happens everywhere.
Boat cruises are no different than club parties, you have to pick them selectively.
I'm pretty sure I'll only be on beats ahoy cruises this summer. |

I wouldn't call Toronto Island part of downtown Toronto. |
and that's where the loophole is (but more to it). I was talking to Jason about this and he made a very good point. No matter what loophole you find, most of the islanders are either rich and a few of those who own property on the island are(City of Toronto) officials giving them a bigger voice over ours. |

The simple problem you have to overcome is making old people understand what its like to be young....unfortunately, you will never convince the islanders and the city officials that young people have just as much right to make reasonable amounts of noise as they do to have quiet time. |

That's the funny part. Most people on the island don't even own the property. They pay a ridiculously low lease rate to live there (something like $1/day). If you're paying that much money to live on prime real estate like the Toronto Island, you have nothing to complain about.
There should be nobody living on the Toronto Island. From complaining about boat cruises and the Harbourfront Center, to the construction of Porter Airport, these whiners think they are entitled to peace and quiet, at the expense of millions of Torontonians enjoying their waterfront. I thought we had quelled these whines a couple of years ago. I recall a judge telling them that they basically had nothing to complain about at all in that Docks conflict, and told them that The Docks would not be shut down. It seems the whining has now resurfaced.
I'll be waiting to see how this pans out a bit more before I start making phone calls and writing emails to the city to voice my concerns and to get a clearer understanding of what is going on.
There is a lot of speculation in this thread, but what I would really like to know is if the noise restrictions have indeed become stricter since last year, and if so, why this is the case. |

If/when you write, I think you should share on here and we can (those of us that want to) send one from ourselves, too. |

I posted a link earlier about the Docks issue. I simply don't think they should have any say! We also are paying to keep the island well maintained. As a friend made mention, The Irony is that their property is actually illegal because living on the island originally was deemed illegal, not sure if it still is and the city just doesn't care anymore. But, the island is still the city property and the people living there are living on parks and rec property. Thus, our Taxes go to cutting their lawns!
It's all bull to begin with. |

What's so different than a guy who drank too much or took too much of something on a boat than a guy who passed out in a ter at a booze can only took be found by the event organiser closing up an hour after the booze can closed?
Let me get this straight, you'll date and sleep with the second guy but the first guy is just so appalling to you that you can't even be on the same boat as him? |
