Does anyone think that this is a good deal for a diamond engagement ring? (pg. 10)

*sigh*.... must we go over this again? First, the value is $20K, not the amount I paid. Secondly, I flipped a house and made close to $50K right before buying the ring, not needing to save up or dip into my bank account. It was a total anomale- I had really good fortune at the perfect time... otherwise I would have gone the standard route of something more on the modest side.

I like the way you continually justify the purchase by saying 'I flipped a house earlier, so I had lots of money.' The point is that anyone who pays that much for a ring is an idiot, even if they're the richest man in the world.

I'm not trying to justify it; I'm just pointing out the fact that there is a singular reason as to why I did it. Every situation has its own context. Because I had much more at the time than what you consider "necessary" I'm an idiot? You're talking like I spent 100K for a ring, which is much more representative to your point than me spending about $14K, which overall is a small percentage of the money I had at the time. Some would say spending $50K for a world tour like you're about to go on is stupid, and that money at your age could be put to much better use especially in this uncertain economy. But that doesn't make you stupid right?

Huh, weird, I've never seen it spelt with 'ie' before.

So maybe I'll just shut my damn mouth :o

Edit: That was a silly smiley to use there, wasn't it? :/

Damn you, Kevin *shakes fist*

1) No more than 2k, I mean that's enough as it is. One day she's doing the dishes, or cooking, or talking about her vagina (whatever it is girls do) and BAM the ring goes flying off and she loses it. Faningtastic.

Dude... that's what insurance is for. Get an all perils homeowners policy and you're covered for this sort of thing. If the ring is more then the jewelry limit then you schedule it at a higher amount.

2) I was under the impression that a wedding band is cheap, how much are they? , are they expensive too

That depends what you buy. If you're going with a simple gold band then it's pretty cheap... $6-700 depending on the grade of gold and weight. If you're going for a ring that has stones then it will go up based on the stones. Mrs. Hazard's wedding band is actually two bands which the engagement ring fits in between. Due to the design I came up with for the engagement ring the wedding band also needed to be custom made to fit it. It's white gold, 18k, and I think it was about $900(CND)... but my goldsmith is a family friend so I got a heavily discounted price.

I will never in my life understand how a piece of rock on a piece of metal can suit my "style" or how my man will ever be able to look at one and be like "oh that ring is totally Ania"

What a crock of . They all look the same.

Oh, now that's really simple:

Rock on metal: no style, no intelligence, interchangeable
Chick: no style, dumb as a rock, interchangeable

Goes perfectly together.
