Does anyone think that this is a good deal for a diamond engagement ring? (pg. 18)

BTW... Chemy, you're wrong on the expense of a custom made ring... you can usually get a better deal by going custom provided that you are a smart consumer. | I do agree that a smart consumer can save money and get a good deal but its still going to get expensive if you are buying a good quality ring. I am sure I can get a custom made ring with ty or fake stones for cheap....but once again what does that say about how I feel about the person I want to marry. |

What it says depends on who she is. For example; I know a young lady that has expressed a strong preference for an fake or artificial diamond, as she has a strong negitive opinion of the diamond mining industry. In such a situation a fake stone would be more appropriate. What is and is not a good/fitting ring is entirely dependant on the couple involved. |

yea well look at people like goldie hawn and kurt russle who never got married and have been together longer than any married couple in hollywood or any married couple i know for that matter and probably have a better understanding of what love and committment is all about more than you guys ever will.
they are an example of what i'm talking about and it just goes to show the ring aint everything to everyone;) and i fall under that category of people. |

i really highly doubt i'll ever get married :o ..evar. no one would want to put up with me for the rest of their life.. it's cool though, i'm not traditional in that sense.. if i never get married i'll be fine with it.. as long as im living in a place i like & with my cat :p |

them not being married doesn't mean he hasn't bought her expensive jewelry. they have a committed relationship which i can respect but like i said for all we know he bought her an expensive bracelet to express his love for her. |

You don't express love with possessions. |

what i meant is a symbol of his love for her, whatever the point was you can get ridiculously expensive gifts and not be married. |

| I don't think a "symbol of love" is an expensive present. Actually, I would be offended if my boyfriend/husband/whatever gave me an expensive present and said "this is a token of my love". Symbols of love are things you do for one another that have no cost but come from your heart. |
