Does anyone think that this is a good deal for a diamond engagement ring? (pg. 17)

ya Chem
what gives?
your woman sounds like a fat insecure bitch who needs diamonds to convince herself that someone actually loves her
what's worse is that it has made you feel that you do not have the ability to show your love and loyalty without exchanging money for merchandise - no matter what it "represents" |

no...I just believe that if you love someone to the point you want to marry them you should give them something as beautiful as they are to you. If I could get a ring made that truly showed that for $500.00 I would...it's just not possible.
What would you prefer....an off the shelf ring or a one of a kind ring that your BF helped design? |
again, this is a matter of preference. you dont feel you could find a great ring for $500, and i'd be fine with a $500 semi-precious stone ring.
it is what it is. a diamond ring isn't everything to me and obviously means a lot more to you and the types of chicks you've dated?
i'm not your typical female when it comes to love and jewelry and my boyfriend buying me things all the time to show me he loves me. i have a strong sense of pride and practicality and i'll be perfectly content going down to city hall and getting married there with a $500 ring. he doesn't need to do anything more than he's already doing to show me his love and respect and dedication to us. i know this.
honestly, i'd rather he go and get my name tatooed on his arm and propose to me with that instead of a ring. lol now THAT'S showing a commitment. |

Well, she did gain six pounds this year and is up to 118 pounds so yeah she's fat....I'm going to have to cut her food intake in half....I told her she couldn't weigh more then 115 pounds.
She hasn't made me feel this way at all....its how I feel about the symbolism of the ring. Maybe you and your BF believe you are nothing more then an off the shelf GF who can be bought on-line for $500.00 and replaced with just the click of a mouse.....I just don't feel that way about my GF. |

and once again you are missing the point. IT has nothing to do with her....it has to do with me and how I feel about her. I don't think anyone should buy an off the shelf engagement ring. If you can get a beautiful custom made ring for $500.00 then great.....but good luck.
If you want to get matching tatoo rings then go right ahead....just design each others rings. |

I fail to see how anything that I stated about engagement rings would lead to the frame of mind you express here.
But I don't really care. I think you're bored and trying to stir the pot by being stereotypical and somewhat sexist. |

how is it being sexist? IF you are going to buy an engagement ring for someone it should be something very special and not something you pick up off a shelf like morning cereal. IF someone is going to just buy any old ring then obviously they don't think you are special enough to put some time, thought and creativity into it....why the hell would you want to marry someone who doesn't think you're special and deserve something that no one else in the world has. |

I have to say I'm totally with Chemy on this one. If one believes that an engagement ring is important then it is probable that they believe it to be important because of it's symbolism. If one believes that the ring should be a symbol of one's love for their chosen mate then it follows that a ring designed specifically for your chosen mate, which is a one of a kind, is a far more meaningful symbol then something that is mass manufactured. I think the cost of the ring is irrelavent; however, the thought and effort that went into it are not.
BTW... Chemy, you're wrong on the expense of a custom made ring... you can usually get a better deal by going custom provided that you are a smart consumer. |
