The Trance Only Syndrome

So, I was wondering, how many of you people out there have the same type of disorder I do? I can't help but to listen to trance out of all the times I listen to music, which is pretty much 24/7.
I find it that, listeners of another genre tend to have more than just one favorite genre.
But for me, I can't seem to listen to anything else but trance. I don't know if only occurs with me, but I sure hope not! I do listen to other genres here and there, but for the most part, my iPod is 95% trance and I can't stop listening to it sometimes.. gees, what did I do to myself!?
I think trance in particular is an acquired taste, what I mean is I don't think most people will like trance for the very first time they hear it. But after enough treatments of the best songs that strongly represent our genre or whatnot, in the end it pulls through but the mark it leaves on the listener is tremendous I think.
Anyway, I want your thoughts on this. Now. |

| I guess I was like that when I was new to EDM, but I eventually ventured out of my comfort zone and found a wide range of other great music |

I couldn't survive on one brand of music alone. |

| You grow out of it. The more you listen, the more your taste develops and widens. |

| When I first found trance, it was all I listened to. I can't imagine what it would be like if I still only listened trance. I mean, you eventually have to find something else you like. |

I've never listened to only one genre of music, and don't understand why anyone would want to limit themselves so.
But, you like what you like, so who cares? Enjoy yourself. I just can't imagine that being me. |

This mentality actually really bums me out. Its so depressing sometimes when I see a few kids on the dance floor with their "insert epic trance label here" T-shirts on with their arms crossed waiting for me to play "the trance". Specially when the room is going off and theres just three dudes pouting cause they can't understand the concept of a journey.
Yes, I play trance, but its a tool just like all the other genres that encompass a set that ultimately makes the journey we are all on during a set.
I hate to say it, but if you just want to hear the top 10 Audiojelly trance tracks in a set, im not the dj for you. If you are in for a progressivehousetrancetechgroovemelodicemotional adventure through music, im for you.
Rant over :D |
