The trend I noticed is that the majority of university/college students prefer the bar/pub scene and on the occasion the clubs with their music of choice top 40.

There is a small percent of students that are true edm fans thus making it hard for a club to dedicate a full night to electronic music. This is my experience while attending Sheridan College and having friends all over the province at different Colleges/University's. One offs with a big international or Toronto dj usually work because its not something people are used to in college towns. Its a shame really, that's the reason she comes back to my place on weekends to party, if there was a stronger scene I would go there for the weekend more often

boom...that's the right attitude I think. Chem, would you reeeeeally not come if they played EDM?

I think you guys missed the part about them changing their plans. The university crowd will still get what they want until they pass out. I think we're talking afterhours here and if that's the case, if it's on a weekend, cha-ching. they don't have to base their entire model on EDM, but they could still have it in addition. Baby steps.

I would love for there to be an EDM scene in KW and I think its great that Tabu is bringing in international DJs and toronto based DJs but none of that changes the fact that KW does not have an EDM scene and it doesn't support an EDM scene. One off events like these are fun and will bring out people but as the Tabu guy has already said they still play a lot of Top 40 music at the beginning of the night and up until the guest DJs are on.

If I knew that every Friday night was going to be an EDM night whether its trance, house, techno or any combination I would definitely be interested in going out. There is one problem...there is no night like that. If Tabu or any other club in KW had a night like that within two to three months there would be very few people there as the university crowd would move to a new location that plays Top 40 music. As already stated, the university crowd isn't looking for a place to go and dance to banging beats...they are looking for a place to drink, pick up and party....which top 40 music is more suited to.

He said they are staying open until 4 am....great...so between 1 and 4 it seems you will get an edm feel to the club. As others have already said...good luck getting into the club at 1 am. The university crowd isn't going to leave because they stop playing top 40...they leave when they stop serving alcohol...so hopefully you can get in by 2 am. I'm sorry but I would rather travel to Toronto and be dancing to good beats by 12 then waiting till 2 and hopefully be dancing to good beats.

I still need to go to Tabu.

I have asked many of my friends from the K/W area why they do not go to clubs in their hometown instead of traveling to Toronto all the time for edm parties. They tell me that the vibe is just not the same in KW. They figure that it makes better sense for them to drive to Toronto for the night to see much better acts in a much better venue (Guv, CZ, FW). I did not understand what they meant until I partied there. Its okay if you have nothing else, but it does not satisfy like the clubs in TO.

ya, that's pretty much true. I go to Guv a lot, although never just for a random night, always when there's a DJ I want to see. That was kind of the point of the thread, the fact that there isn't anything hugely interesting going on here, especially in the past 2 years. People are very right about it being very hard to get something going, but you never know. I know there are some plans to have one-off nights at various places, hopefully good venues, so hopefully those people show up and make the vibe better when there isn't something big happening at Guv. Any locals going to Benassi tonight?

"Bought and opened my first nightclub (140) and was determined to prove that a decent iTunes mix could effectively replace any DJ and save us hundreds of dollars.

now that foundations have been layed lets see how far we can get with this scene of ours

Why not just book Fridays or Saturdays at Starlight (am I the only person that knows of Starlight??) and only play EDM. Religiously only do this one day, Friday or Saturday, and do plenty of promotions. The location is good, and it could start some kind of trend. Even Thursday nights... before everyone s off to Toronto.

The trick is consistency and promotion. Promoters are too quick to quit at first sign of losses, can't blame them, there's no investment funding.

starlight works... only problem is they rotate djs pretty consistently

do you know someone there?

starlight has a really strong nights so i doubt it they would be even remotely interested in only edm events.
